About this audiobook

A Midwest Book Awards Winner

As former police officer John Cabrelli struggles in the wake of a career-ending event, he retreats to his late uncle’s lakeside cabin in Wisconsin… but it’s far from the peaceful refuge he expects. Danger awaits — along with the truth behind his uncle’s death.

Award-winning author Jeff Nania draws upon careers in law enforcement, conservation, and a passion for our natural resources in his bestselling Northern Lakes Mystery series that keeps readers wondering who is on the right side of the law in the small town of Musky Falls. Figure Eight, the first book in the series, was a winner of the Midwest Book Awards. The series continues with Spider Lake, winner of the Midwest Book Awards, Independent Publisher Book Awards, and Next Generation Indie Book Awards, and Bough Cutter. Book four is expected in late 2022.

C. J. Box, William Kent Krueger, Dana Stabenow, Louise Penny, and Victoria Houston fans love this mystery series set in Wisconsin's Northwoods.

species, ecology, ex-cop, PTSD, remorse, inheritance, disgrace, dishonest-business-practices, lawyers, relatives, friends, friendship, frustration, murder, investigations, riveting*****Much too realistic portrayals of the cop life as well as corporate greed to destroy the environment.Cabrelli was a good cop. Until he wasn't. Mired in legal and department issues was nothing compared to how he castigated himself for the mistakes he made that led to the death of a young girl. Not long after his friends helped him out of the sea of despair, he finds that his fondly remembered uncle has died and left him his cottage "Up North" near Duluth and Lake Superior. And then everything really goes to compost. Ecological disaster looms in the form of dishonest corporations that could mean the end of everything the area stands for.

Great escape reading today in this northwoods Wisconsin mystery! I'd heard the author on the radio & the story appealed and did not disappoint. Our library system didn't have it so I had to get it through another system.
