NATIONAL TRANSLATION AWARDS Hilary Kaplan of Los Angeles won the 2016 National Translation Award in Poetry for her translation from the Portuguese of Angélica Freitas’s poetry collection Rilke Shake (Phoneme Media). Adriana X. Jacobs, Karen Kovacik, and Cole Swensen judged. Elizabeth Harris of Grand Forks, North Dakota, won the 2016 National Translation Award in Prose for her translation from the Italian of Antonio Tabucchi’s novel Tristano Dies: A Life (Archipelago Books). Karen Emmerich, Andrea Labinger, and Marian Schwartz judged. They each received $2,500. The annual awards are given for a book of poetry and a book of prose translated from any language into English and published in the previous year. (SEE DEADLINES.)
LUCIEN STRYK ASIAN TRANSLATION PRIZE
Sawako Nakayasu of Tokyo won the 2016 Lucien Stryk Asian Translation Prize for her translation from the Japanese of The Collected Poems of Chika Sagawa (Canarium Books). She received $5,000. Steven Bradbury, Eleanor Goodman, and Kendall Heitzman judged. The annual award is given for a book of poetry translated from any Asian language into English and published in the previous year.(SEE DEADLINES.)
ITALIAN PROSE IN TRANSLATION AWARD Ann Goldstein of New York City won the 2016 Italian Prose in Translation Award for her translation from the Italian of Elena Ferrante’s novel The Story of the Lost Child (Europa Editions). She received $5,000. Michael Moore, Jamie Richards, and Russell Valentino judged. The annual award is given for a book of fiction or nonfiction translated from Italian into English and published in the previous year. (SEE DEADLINES.)

ROBERT DANA–ANHINGA PRIZE FOR POETRY May Yang of San Diego won the 2016 Robert Dana–Anhinga Prize for her poetry collection To Whitey and the Cracker Jack. She received $2,000, and her book will be published by Anhinga Press in the spring. Evie Shockley judged. The annual award is given for a poetry collection. The next deadline is May 30.

ARTS & LETTERS PRIZES Jude Nutter of Minneapolis won the Arts & Letters Prize for poetry for a group of poems. Micah Dean Hicks of Hope, Arkansas, won in fiction for his story “The Deer.” Dawn Davies of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, won in creative nonfiction for her essay “Mothers of Sparta.” They each received $1,000, and their winning works were published in the Fall 2016 issue of Arts & Letters. Carol Frost judged in poetry, Kate Christensen judged in fiction, and Faith Adiele judged in creative nonfiction. The annual awards are given for a group of poems, a short story, and an essay.
