About this audiobook

Magical house, insane killer, and life altering decisions—being an adult sucks.

I did it, I've graduated and no more pressure. And I've got a house, me a house! Road trip time for Jo, Sable, and me up to Albany, New York. The house both is and isn't what I expected. Beautiful-yes. Locked rooms with mysterious stuff-yes. But it also seems alive, which isn't possible. This isn't a movie, houses aren't alive.

But before I get to finish exploring the house the draft office has decided I need another trial run, and of course Agent Steven Alixant is their errand boy. Before I get a chance to figure out anything— there are some odd things about that house—I'm dragged off to New York City to help catch a serial killer. Which makes no sense. A bachelors degree doesn't make me Sherlock Holmes. Things are going well, I guess. Is it a good thing to figure out clues about a serial killer's identity?

But when I get a phone call that something has happened to Jo and Sable is when things get dangerous. I'm going to have to make a bunch of decisions and I hope I can save Jo and Sable, even if it ends up costing me my life.

When your luck is as twisted as mine nothing is ever straightforward.

A found family, non-romantic urban fantasy with a smattering of magical beasties.

This was one of the most enjoyable series I've ever listened to, I absolutely loved the characters and the story itself, I never wanted it to end. On that note, PLEASE CONTINUE THIS SERIOUS, im sure there is far more growth and adventure for Corey, her coven and friends to go on, including more investigations please.

A special mention to Autumn Juliet for being among the very best narrators i have listened to and I listen to around 150 books per year. Very few offer such immersion and magic in such wonderful books. A narrator can make or break audiobooks and in this case Autumn Juliet has very much made this book into a masterpiece of YA literature. Thanks very much.

This series is well written in a complex fantasy world that butts up to our own. I did find it ironic that the heroine chastises herself for interrupting a "religious" sacrifice of young beings only to stand by and watch as they are sacrificed with surprising results. This was totally out of character. Funny that the beings talk of eating people and impose their will on the humans. Like I said, ironic. I hope the this particular point was just a way to forward the plot and not a ridiculous attempt to emphasis the relativity of moral behavior. You just cannot have it both ways, a moral heroine willing to die to protect other and one who stands by to watch infants murdered.
