About this audiobook
“This slow burn, second chance, brother’s best friend romance was perfect.” -- Anna Reads Here
Ben Porter may be living the dream, but it’s not his.
His dad’s health scare might not be the ideal reason to come home for the summer, but it’s a welcome break from the stellar glitz of Ben’s life in Los Angeles. Even if modeling has him rivaling Marky Mark’s fame, posing isn’t his passion. Landing a role with a Boston Shakespeare theater brings him closer to fulfilling his dreams of being a real actor.
Facing the reason he went west in the first place? That’s another story.
Lucy Minola’s dreams were shattered seven years ago when a drunk driver smashed into her brother’s car. She knows it was her fault. So as penance, she works hard to care for her family, goes to confession faithfully, and buries all the feelings she had for the person who left when she needed him most: her brother’s best friend.
When an injured dog brings them back together, Lucy’s good-girl façade begins to crack. Women everywhere are obsessed with the rad bod they see in magazines, but she’s the only one Ben seems to notice.
She can’t trust herself with the man who walked away… but can she let him go a second time?
This bittersweet romance, Book #2 in Karen Grey’s 1980’s Boston Classics series, proves that everyone deserves a second chance in love and in life.
“It’s a charming second-chance romance featuring a cute dog, a gorgeous hero, a prickly heroine, mix-tapes, and enough eighties references for those of us of a certain age to get nostalgic over!... the superb narration is definitely worth the price of admission, and if you’re after a low-angst romance featuring a cute mutt, a hot model-turned-Shakespearian actor and the dog trainer he loves, then it might just be a perfect fit.” - AudioGals

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I really enjoyed this book! It was a blast from the past to be in a world before cell phones, when long distance was a big deal... The story is well written and the characters have a solid journey as childhood friends to lovers, then through tragedy and mistakes to find love....and there is a dog! Emma Wilder and Brian Pallino do a wonderful job narrating with great performances throughout!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I loved this audiobook! Listening to this book just made me happy and I couldn't get enough. I enjoyed the first book in this series and had expected to like this book just as much. I ended up liking it even more than the first. I think that Lucy and Ben's story just clicked for me and the superb narration was able to take the story to the next level. I am so glad that I decided to listen to this book.Ben has made it big as an underwear model in California so everyone in town seems to know who he is. He came back home because his dad had some health issues but has decided to stay for a bit. He has a role in a Shakespeare play with a local theatre and helps out with his dad as much as he can. When Ben finds an injured dog on his doorstep, he takes him to the local vet where Lucy works. Lucy is still at home and spends her days working at the vet clinic and the rest of her time taking care of her family. I loved Lucy and Ben. I do have a weakness for second chance romances so I love the fact that they have a history together. The death of Lucy's brother and Ben's best friend hit both of them very hard and they are still dealing with the effects. I thought that this pair worked really well together. The chemistry between them was fantastic and I loved the way they seemed to really come alive together. They both have some things to work through and I loved the growth that we see in both characters over the course of the story. This book is set in the 80s which was a lot of fun for me. I felt quite a bit of nostalgia when the story talked about things that were the way of life during those years. I kind of wished that I had kept a few of the mixtapes that I spent hours making. There were a few things that were mentioned that I hadn't thought about in years. I thought that Emma Wilder and Brian Pallino did a phenomenal job with the narration. I think that both narrators were able to capture their character's personalities perfectly. I also thought that the effects of the audio production were very well done. There was a sound of a tape either rewinding or fast-forwarding to signal the beginning or end of a flashback. It was really a perfect way to communicate those changes to the listener. I thought that both narrators added a lot to the story and that their performance added to my overall enjoyment.I would highly recommend this book to fans of romance. I thought that this was a wonderful romance filled with great characters, a lot of chemistry, an adorable dog, and a lot of heart. I definitely plan to read more of Karen Grey's work in the future.I received a digital review copy of this audiobook from the author.
