About this audiobook

Rex “TW” McMurtry’s perpetual single-hood wouldn’t bother him so much if all his ex-girlfriends didn’t keep marrying the very next person they dated, especially when so many of those grooms are his closest friends. He may be a pro-football defensive end for the Chicago Squalls, but the press only wants to talk about how he’s always a groomsman and never a groom. Rex is sick of being the guy before the husband, and he’s most definitely sick of being the best man at all their weddings.

Bartender Abigail McNerny is the gal-pal, the wing-woman, the she-BFF. She’s dated. Once. And once was more than enough. Privy to all the sad stories of her customers, ‘contentment over commitment’ is her motto, and Abby is convinced no one on earth could ever entice her into a romantic relationship . . . except that one guy she’s loved since preschool.

The guy who just walked into her bar.

The guy who doesn’t recognize her.

The guy who is drunk and needs a ride home.

The guy who has a proposition she should definitely refuse.

Not a new plot, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. PR creates the best characters

I often very much enjoy Penny’s books. This was a nice spin on a fake relationship trope. I thought that both characters were likable, and the reason for the fake relationship was fairly believable.

The story is wonderful - Penny Reid is a genius - but it feels like the audio skipped between chapters 25 and 26, and it also ended abruptly as if it was cut off.

The premises for fake dating and fake marriages are ALWAYS goofy and unbelievable, so let's just get that out of the way.

A book has to be just about PERFECT for me to give it five stars.
This book wasn't perfect, but my five stars are no less enthusiastic,
and if I was bobbling on them at all, Joy Nash's EXCELLENTTTTTT narration would have put it over the top for me.

Man, I do love me a nice delicious slow burn, and this one delivered on SO many fronts.
Sports books aren't even my thing, but OH I loved Rex, and his grumpy sweetness that turned into DIRTY TALKING DADDY when things finally got cooking.

Abby was a delightful heroine as well, with her "I have no idea how gorgeous I am" nerdy knitter vibes, her strongly held ethics, and her "under dog you want to root for" persona.

The Crafting Christmas with her new found family (Rex's aunt and uncle) was, like so many aspects of the book, just quirky enough to be original and charming, and charmed I was.

A new favorite book from an old favorite author!

I love Penny Reid's books, and I throughly enjpy the narration by Joy Nash. She slips into the male and female character leads brilliantly, and is able to real express the characters well. I can't wait for the rest of this series to come out.
