About this audiobook

From Wall Street Journal bestselling author Robert Bailey comes a compelling legal thriller about a lawyer who takes on his sister’s case—and confronts small-town secrets and family skeletons.

Attorney Jason Rich has made a fortune off other people’s bad luck. His billboard slogan—“In an accident? Get Rich!”—accosts motorists on highways from Alabama to Florida. As ambulance chasers go, he’s exceptional.

But after a recent divorce and a stint in rehab, Jason has hit a rough patch. And things only get worse when his sister, Jana, is accused of her husband’s murder. Even though Jason has no experience trying criminal cases, Jana begs him to represent her.

Jason has mixed feelings about returning to Lake Guntersville, Alabama—and even more reservations about diving back into his sister’s life. Between the drugs, the affairs, and a tendency to gaslight everyone in her inner circle, Jana has plenty of enemies in town.

But did Jana hire someone to kill her husband? Jason isn’t so sure. He heads back to his hometown to unravel the truth and face off against opponents old and new.

Y'know, sometimes you just need a decently-written potboiler of a legal thriller to cleanse the palate and just entertain you for a few hours. This book does that, and it does it well. There's not a lot new here, and if you've read enough older Grisham, you're gonna find a lot to love. Bailey definitely plays in the same sandbox. Tortured lawyer. Impossible to win case. Bombshell revelations. And lots and lots of southern atmosphere.Overall, just a good, fun legal beach read. I'll absolutely read the next one.

I thoroughly enjoyed this legal thriller about a recovering alcoholic personal injury lawyer who heads home to deal with family. Namely, a murdered brother-in-law, a drug addict (possibly murderess) sister, and nieces he hasn't seen in years. Jason Rich is a very likable character, unlike his sister, Jana, who is a real tool. But family is family. The plot and dialog were lively, and the twist at the end was a bonus. Rich Blood is an entertaining read I highly recommend.

Rich Blood by Robert BaileyJason Rich #1Knowing who the murderer is in the first paragraph means this is not a murder mystery…though there are some mysteries to be solved. Nope, this is more a look into a dysfunctional family that sees the younger brother take on saving his older sister from being found guilty of murder and sent to death row…even though she did not literally pull the trigger that killed her husband, could she be behind his death? What I liked: * Jason Rich: lawyer focused on civil personal injury cases, third generation with law degree, wealthy, divorced, alcoholic, a man that was difficult to like at first, well-liked by people he works with, someone that developed well through the story and left me wanting to see how he does in the future – catchy advertising billboards he set up, too* Izzy: Jason’s law partner, aggressive, capable, caring, excellent at her work, has Jason’s best interests in mind, would like to know more about her in the future* Harry: investigator for Jason’s law firm, ex-military, worked as a bouncer in the past, good at what he does, wants what is best for Jason, intriguing* Chase: Jason’s childhood neighbor and friend, military veteran, has PTSD, potential love interest* Nola & Niecy: Jason’s nieces, caught in a family tug of war, essentially lost both parents when their father was murdered, lucky to have Jason step up when he does, want to hear more about them* The Tonindandels: three brothers that were wild as children, are distinguished military veterans, lethal, protective and there for those that they care about* The Tyson Cade thread: a perfect bad guy to dislike and one that no doubt will show up again in the future* The plot, pace, setting, and writing – drew me in and kept me reading from beginning to end* The unexpected twists and turns and way I felt at the endWhat I didn’t like: * Who and what I was meant not to like* Thinking about how people can really mess up their lives…one choice off the path and then anotherDid I enjoy this book? I'm pleased that this is the first book in a potential series. We have only gone so far with Jason but the ending provides potential for the future. The story moved right along, jumping ahead at appropriate time periods to reach the trial. Bailey is a new author for me---a different writer than the John Grisham version.

This was one well thought out roller coaster of a ride with sweaty palms and elevated heart rate. So many damaged and fallible characters which made it all the more interesting. This is the first book I have read by Robert Bailey - a great introduction and push to look at his other works. Many thanks to Amazon for making this available as a free August download.

This was an Amazon First Reads pick for August 2022. I picked it hoping for a Grisham-like legal fiction story. There was a good unraveling of the legal case presented, but there were almost no sympathetic characters in the entire book. The only two who seemed halfway decent were the two daughters, Nola and Nicey. Their father, the murder victim, Dr. Braxton Waters, was having affairs and allegedly let the falling out of one of those affairs affect his treatment of a patient. The accused, Jana Rich Waters, also had affairs, has a drug problem and an alcohol problem, and appears as an entitled shrew. Other characters divorced over infidelity. The lawyer character, Jana's brother Jason, is an alcoholic. He starts out as an unsympathetic character for me but he did seem to be trying to clean up his life by the end of the book. Based on the epilogue, I'm still not sure whether Jason Rich did the right thing in so zealously defending his sister.
