About this audiobook

To defend her client, she must dig up a town’s darkest secrets.

Defense attorney Cass Leary thought she’d escaped her hometown for good. But after leaving her high-paying job in Chicago, she decides to revisit her troubled past. When someone murders the beloved high school basketball coach and Cass steps in to defend the girl accused of the crime, she doesn’t expect the death threats that follow…

Confronting the town that shunned her as a child, she unearths secrets that some would kill to keep buried. And after her client confesses to the crime, Cass detects a widespread cover-up. If she doesn’t get to the bottom of it soon, the next fatalities may be the ones she loves…

The story is fine. The hardest part was listening to the teenage girl character voice. I almost couldn't listen to the book... had to fast forwarded thru those parts.

Ok, there's no mystery in this short novella, but it's pure happy-ending fun! For just a few pages, Ms. Bennett gives us Rafe and Savannah with no mysteries, no shooting, no misunderstandings (ok - one misunderstanding but it doesn't lead to anything bad!) and lots of Christmas cheer. A quick read but worth it!

A good legal thriller. A young defense attorney returns to her hometown and takes on a case involving the murder of a town icon. Against the wishes of almost the entire community, the attorney champions the dependent by revealing some ugly truths. For me, the plot was a little slow paced and there were transitions from present to past which felt somewhat choppy, or awkward. I liked the characters and will likely read the next book in the series. Not bad at all.
