About this audiobook
How much would you give up to get justice for your family?
Matthew Daley is a Manhattan corporate lawyer at the top of his game. As the first defense attorney on call to get pharmaceutical companies out of trouble, Matt is rising in the judicial system exactly as he planned. Until his sister dies of a heroin overdose.
Now, torn between conscience and career, the newly minted law partner faces a critical choice: defend the very companies that manufactured the addictive drugs, or give up his fiancé and his hard-won dream job to fight for justice in his sister’s name.
Returning to his blue-collar hometown with a ragtag band of law-school misfits by his side, Matt squares off against a team of New York corporate attorneys in a high-stakes courtroom battle. If he wins, the case could have national implications, bringing down the multibillion-dollar Big Pharma industry. If he loses, he’ll become collateral damage in the greatest fall of his career and his life.

This was a good book overall, predictable and familiar. It’s not a crime, thriller or mystery as labeled, it’s more of a courtroom drama.
In the very beginning I knew how the story would unfold. The story begins with Matthew being a hotshot attorney in NY and the go-to for defending pharmaceutical companies. He’s at the top of his game - highly successful, engaged, and on the fast track to becoming partner at his firm. His sister Allison became addicted to prescription pain meds after a car accident which led to her later using heroin and eventually overdosing.
Matthew becomes conflicted with how to proceed in his career since he no longer wants to defend big pharmacy companies who don’t care that people become addicted to their drugs.
He quits his big time job in NYC and heads back to the midwest to file suit against the big drug company he felt was responsible for his sister’s addiction and death.
I’d have to compare this book to eating a delicious steak without any side dishes. It’s good and filling, but it’s missing key ingredients to make it better. I prefer books without repetitive fluff, but this was a little too cut and dry, straight to the point. I just needed more.
