About this audiobook

In Lisa Gardner’s first-ever short story following thirteen bestselling novels, The 7th Month takes listeners between the books and into a day in the life of Boston Detective D.D. Warren.

In her seventh month of pregnancy, D.D. should be taking it easy. Instead, she accepts a small consulting role on the set of a serial killer film shooting in Boston. D.D. figures she’ll be useful to someone for at least one night, serving as a police expert and making a little extra money in the bargain.

It seems like a simple task—until the previous film consultant, a former Boston cop, is found beaten to death. Suddenly D.D.’s date with Hollywood gets serious. Extremely pregnant, on the trail of a killer, and surrounded by a hundred and four murder suspects in the middle of a graveyard, D.D. must quickly unravel a tangled web of lies. As another cast member is attacked, D.D. realizes that like it or not, her priorities have changed—and her last desperate hope is that she can catch a killer before she and her unborn baby face mortal danger.

Packed with the suspenseful storytelling that has turned Gardner’s novels into New York Times bestsellers, The 7th Month reveals new insights into a beloved series heroine.

Well interesting storyline and it was very smart they way the characters were brought at every stage of the book plot. D.D. is now seven months pregnant, several months have passed since the last novel Love You More, where D.D. found out she was pregnant by her boyfriend Alex. When we catch up with D.D. she's on desk duty for obvious reasons and has just been asked by Alex to move in with him. Dead bodies and gruesome crime scenes don't make her bat an eye, but a man that's crazy in love with scares her to death.

While on desk duty, a man comes in looking for a police consultant for a movie that's currently filming. It seems the last consultant has bolted or disappeared. Does D.D. know of anyone? Well boredom makes the decision for her, and she heads out for the job.

This was a quick mini mystery that had some nice twists to it, but the best part was seeing her and Alex together. I love D.D.'s reaction to Alex when he comes on set to assist her! My heart skipped a beat right along with D. D's. This is a nice segue into the latest story. If you're a fan of the D.D. Warren novels, then I recommend you pick this one up.

It was a fine, short. I listened to the Audible version and, after it started, I remembered that I don't care for this narrator. But I did enjoy the story.

This is a short story, not a full novel.

Boston homicide detective D.D. Warren is seven months pregnant, bored being stuck on desk duty, and not succeeding in making up her mind on whether to move in with her boyfriend & father of her child, Alex. So it's a welcome distraction when movie producer Donnie Bilger walks in to the station, looking for a police detective to act as a technical consultant on his new movie. He had one, a retired cop, but that guy has apparently taken off on vacation with his very ample paycheck.

It's a lot of money for at most a few days' work, and D.D. can feel useful rather than feeling like a lump. What could go wrong? What could possibly go wrong?

This is a great introduction to the series if you're not familiar with it, and a nice little extra for regular readers of the series.

    Recommended.

A good old fashioned detective mystery - with a female lead. My mom loved murder mystery stories (think Perrry Mason & Columbo ) and every once in a while I feel like reading something she would have enjoyed. She would have loved this one!

A short story that mostly recounts the birth of DD Warren's child. A little mystery in the background. A quick read

A very short story about a Homicide Detective with the Boston Police who is seven months pregnant and about to go on maternity leave. She is invited to earn some extra money as an expert consultant on a film crew, but soon realizes that all is not right on this set.A quick little mystery, nothing ground shaking or moving, just a good read. This is the first I've read by Lisa Gardner, but I think I would read more if they came to hand. The narrator, Kirsten Potter did a fine job.

I'm not a huge fan of short stories, but I read this because it was a link between the previous D.D. Warren book (Love you More) and the final one - to date, at least (Catch Me).

It was still good, the usual style-markers that define Lisa Garner's books were present, but because it was a short story, the denouement happened too quickly and didn't leave enough time for all the tension and twists and turns to develop as much as I would have liked.

Nice short detective book. Fun to read knowing that the plot develops quickly.

Detective Warner is on desk duty due to her impending pregnancy. In her social life she debating whether to move-in with her child's father. She gets caught up in a murder investigation when asked to give technical advice to a filming company. This was a good foray into this series to see if I was going to enjoy it. I didn't really. While the plot was good, the main character, DD Warren is annoying as crap. This short story kept me from wasting a lot of time on a whole novel.

This short story contained a little more romance than Lisa Gardner's previous novels, however, it was just the right touch! It was a nice, quick little read that also contained some quirkiness, but not too much that made you want to stop reading. It was a nice story to read while waiting for the much anticipated "Catch Me". You can't go wrong with any Lisa Gardner novel. She can't write stories fast enough for me! Every time I read one of Gardner's books, I'm left with a sense of needing more (as in I just want another story to read and I want it now!!) Gardner is an extremely talented, gifted crime story teller!

Would you try another book from Lisa Gardner and/or Kirsten Potter? I like mysteries and this book was simple fast paced without going beyond what you really need in a good mystery book. I need to listen to another of Gardner's book before making a decision on whether or not she is an author I want to gather all her books and read/listen. What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!) The ending was concise and wrapped up the book very effectively.

A good short story about a couple of days in the life of D.D. Warren, Ms. Gardner's serial heroine. The title is in reference to her pregnancy, in its 7th month. I enjoyed the story well enough, but more appreciate the author's way of dealing with the character's pregnancy. Much better to deal with this period of the character's life than all in one book (of course, in my opinion).

It's hard to compare a "long short story" or "short novella" to the author's full-length novels. This one is a good detective story, from setting up a murder to solving it in a span of 2 days, (and under 2 hours in the unabridged audio version). As in most short fiction, there's little room for extras such as character development, background, scenery, etc. Readers familiar with the D. D. Warren series will be pleased to see a slightly different angle on Warren's life just prior to the events of CATCH ME, Gardner's next novel.Excellent narration distinguished characters, genders, and moods without going overboard.
