This was an absorbing read, with complex characters who brought a mix of humour, wisdom and courage to the story. The plot was comprehensive and believable. I thoroughly enjoyed this story and highly recommend it. A new favourite.

My favorite D.D. Warren book of the series. Amazingly twisted plot with some great characters. Definitely a page-turner in the second half of the book. If you have never read a Lisa Gardner novel, starting with this one would be a great choice -- though these characters do have a history in her earlier novels.

I always enjoy a D. D. Warren story! I wished this book had a little more of D.D., though.Flora Dane has been working on healing ever since she escaped from serial killer Jacob Ness. When a body is discovered in the woods of Georgia, she is helping both D.D. and Kimberly Quincy. They uncover more than just a body. There is also a young girl who is mute after a brain injury, but could hold the key to solving the crimes. This was another solid D.D. Warren case.#WhenYouSeeMe #LisaGardner

I love the D.D. Warren series. Gardner is so consistently good. Five stars again! In this book D.D., Flora Dane, and FBI agent Kimberly Quincy are brought together again on a case that may lead to more information on Flora Dane's kidnapper Jacob Ness. As the three women, along with true-crime enthusiast Keith (who was introduced in book #10), investigate, the case gets considerably more complex. Does this really have to do with Jacob? Or is this something else entirely but just as sinister?Gardner is at her best here with the rapidly moving plot, interesting character development, and - what I really like - heart. Although Gardner's books have enough action to be considered a procedural, they are far more than that. Thanks to her excellent writing, all the books in her D.D. Warren series have depth and a level of humanity infused throughout. "When You See Me" is no exception. I could not put this book down. Can't wait for #12!

The leads in different series work well together as old crimes surface and new ones begin happening. The thriller is plotted well, but the strength of the story is in the resilience of women who overcome the worst that evil can do to them.

The discovery of Lilah Abenito’s remains in the mountains near Niche, Georgia brings FBI agent Kimberly Quincy, Boston Police Sergeant D. D. Warren, and victim-turned-vindicator Flora Dane to the small town. It isn’t long before the joint task force uncovers more skeletal remains, setting in motion a chain of events that ultimately threaten their lives. Is this small Appalachian town the place where Jacob Ness brought Flora Dane when he kidnapped her? Are the women buried here more of his victims? And just what is the truth of the inn’s young, voiceless maid who has no name?Several narrators . . . Flora, D. D., Kimberly, and an unidentified woman . . . take turns offering their viewpoints in this brilliant narrative, the eleventh in the D. D. Warren series. There’s a pervasive uneasiness that underlies the telling of the tale and keeps the tension mounting. The twisting plot, with its surprising discoveries, moves the story in unexpected directions. The characters, all deeply nuanced and well-defined, feel like old friends. Flora is still seeking to be thriving rather than simply surviving; her relationship with computer guru Keith is fraught with her uncertainty. D. D. is missing her family but is determined to find closure surrounding the evil that was Jacob Ness. Kimberly, initially somewhat annoyed with the addition of civilians to the task force, soon finds her investigator-self impressed by what Flora and Keith bring to the team. The narrative is, by turns, stunning, compelling, complex, intense, and profoundly emotional. Filled with panic-inducing suspense, secrets, lies, and Jacob Ness’s depravity, the strength of the unfolding story lies in its relationships, its precise forensics, and its unexpected revelations. Niche feels wholesome and quaint; truth peels away the veneer to reveal the evil at its core. Readers will find it difficult to set this one aside before turning the final page. Highly recommended.

Books and series like this are why I love reading so much! I started reading this series in the middle with the 1st book that introduced Flora Dane's character. This is now the 4th book that I've read by this author and each book has been a five star read for me! That's amazing! I will say that while you don't have to read this series in order (as I haven't), I would recommend starting where I did with book #8 which is titled Find Her. It's a good place in this series to start if you aren't willing to go all the way back to book one like I plan on doing. Lisa Gardner has become one of my go to authors at this point. I will be reading everything and anything she writes! But back to this book - I picked this one up because with everything going on in the current world I needed an author I could trust and a book that would sweep me away. That is exactly what this book did! I finished this book in about two days because I just could not set my kindle down. I was absolutely hooked by the entire book! The thing about this series is that I have really come to care for DD and Flora's characters for a variety of reasons. This is the 1st book that I've read featuring Kimberly Quincy (she may have been in the previous books I've read but just didn't play a main role like she did in this one - I can't remember for sure). This book focused on three strong women solving one very twisted mystery. What more could you want?!? I found myself reading as fast as I could, the suspense had me on the edge of my seat, and I was completely satisfied with the way the book ended. It's going to be a long wait until the next book in the series releases but I already know that it will be completely worth the wait! Also, I could fill in the time with those older books considering I now have a few of them on my shelves already after loving this series so much!Overall, this is another five star read for me with this series! I have well and truly loved EVERY book that I've read in it so far! This is one of those authors and series that shouldn't be missed! I cannot recommend it enough! I think that readers will enjoy this one if you are a mystery fan, like darker thrilling reads (she kind of reminds me of Karin Slaughter although I'm not sure that I've read enough of Slaughter's books to say that for sure - Gardner's books aren't as graphic), or just want a book/series that will keep you turning the pages late into the night! I highly, highly recommend this book AND this series as someone who has only read four books in it so far!Bottom Line: An easy book to give five stars - I loved it!Disclosure: I received a copy of this book thanks the publisher. Honest thoughts are my own.

What are you doing here? Go read When You See Me right now.Still here? All right, then, I'll gush about the book for a bit. The story is dark, complex, believable, and led me down a riveting path from beginning to end.The criminal aspect could be - and probably is - happening somewhere in the world as you're reading these words. That in itself is terrifying. But this story goes far deeper than simply solving a crime, and I was emotionally invested throughout. We have quite a cast of characters, several with narrating parts. I had no problem keeping up, though, because they all have unique personalities.Due to an inexcusable oversight on my part, I have not read any of the prior books in this series. When You See Me reads perfectly as a stand-alone. And, yet, I find myself craving those previous books...*I received a review copy from Dutton Books.*

I loved this latest tale of FBI agent Kimberly Quincy, Sergeant D.D. Warren and former victim Flora Dane. There is a lot of action, twists and plenty of bad guys to entertain the reader from page one until the end, as well as too many sympathetic victims to count! Plus the added bonus of karma for one of them. I could not put this one down!

I love being able to read the 11th book in a series without having previously read any of the others and get the full enjoyment of the story. D.D. Warren is a Boston cop and friend of Flora who haw been held captive for over a year. Flora and her friend, Kevin, a true crime aficionado and hacker geek, are asked to accompany D.D. to a remote Georgia town in the Appalachians because a body has been found that could be a victim of Flora’s kidnapper. Like in many mysteries, there’s much more to the story including current human trafficking. Lots of gore and misery, but our heroes figure it all out.

Lisa Gardener is one of those authors that when a new book is released you know you have to rush straight out to buy it, and what a book this is! When You See Me is the 11th installment from the D.D. Warren series, and the beauty with this book is that it can be read as a standalone if you haven't read the previous novels as you really don't need to be acquainted with the names of the characters to jump in to. Then. A young girl is kidnapped and her mother murdered.  Known only as Girl, she is scarred both physically and mentally causing her loss of the ability to speak. Her captor is a monster and there is no escape. Now. When two hikers stumble across a human bone found off path on a mountain trail in Niche, Georgia, it is believed to belong to that of Lilah Abenido who disappeared 15 years ago, and could potentially be one of serial killer Jacob Ness' first victims.  FBI agent Kimberly Quincy brings in detective D.D. Warren, computer analyst Keith, and Flora Dane, kidnapped survivor of the late Ness.  However, all is not as it seems as more skeletal remains are uncovered and with the trail leading cold towards Ness the team have to wonder if there's a more sinister role at play in this quiet Georgian town. Told by four narratives, D.D, Kimberly, Flora and Girl, you really get to see a lot of their backgrounds info and what their lives entail. Again, this is great for readers who haven't followed the series. The characters are strong and more importantly they are believable. My favourite character in this crime read is Girl, she has been through so much at a young age but her strength is deeply admirable. Kidnapping stories always pull on my heartstrings, so it's no surprise that I found a few tears rolling down my cheeks. As always, Lisa handles these crime situations with such delicacy and care. With such a well-devised plot this will have you in a spin trying to figure it all out, so get comfy, pour a drink or two (you'll need to as once you've started reading you won't be able to stop) and get ready for this page turning gem of a read with an ending you won't see coming.Thank you to Netgalley and Random House UK for providing me with a complimentary copy of this book so that I could give an honest review.
