About this audiobook

Lizzy Gardner is a one-million copy bestselling series.

Private investigator Lizzy Gardner knows a thing or two about living in the past. As a teenager, she was terrorized by a serial killer, an ordeal that haunted her for more than a decade before the maniac was finally stopped. So when terminally ill Ruth Fullerton begs Lizzy to reopen the cold case into her daughter’s disappearance, it’s hard to say no. More than twenty years have passed since Carol Fullerton vanished, abandoning her car by the side of a California freeway. The police wrote her off as a runaway, yet something tells Lizzy the truth isn’t so simple…

Carol’s cold case has barely begun to thaw when Andrea Kramer shows up at Lizzy’s door. Andrea’s sister, Diane, has been missing for months, and she’s convinced a charismatic weight-loss guru—part Tony Robbins and part Richard Simmons—is responsible. Diane was obese, but could her obsession with losing weight have led to her disappearance?

As if two active missing persons cases weren’t enough, Lizzy is also trying to manage her two teenage assistants, including one as wounded and haunted by her past as Lizzy.

Fast-paced and deftly plotted, this impressive follow-up to the best-selling Abducted finds Sacramento PI Lizzy Gardner in over her head—but more determined than ever to help those no one else will.

The 2nd book in the Lizzie Gardner series received 3⭐'s because it was just that, "OK." This book, unlike the first book felt forced, a bit rushed, and at the same time it was slow and unnecessarily drawn out. If you read A LOT, like I do -- voraciously -- that will make more sense than if you're an occasional reader. Please don't take my pickiness as a reason to skip "Dead Weight" maybe use it as more of a guide. 1. Don't concern yourself w/Lizzie's "boyfriend;" 2. Take a mental note of new characters as they are introduced, I didn't thinking they would become clearer and more relatable as I continued to read -- they didn't and that's my biggest knock -- I make it the Authors job to make me fall in love with or loathe a character; & 3. Read "2." again.

It is difficult to review why I disliked the book without providing spoilers. The plot was a great one: obese women being kidnapped and forced to lose weight, but the whodunnit conclusion was very weak. The assistant who attacked paedophiles seemed imatitive of The Girl With The Dragon Tatoo but a Pollyanna version that was unconvincing and dislikable.

This was a fast, easy read for me. Well written with enough twists and turns to keep you guessing. Every time I thought I had everything figured out along came a new development that threw my theory out.It was a fun read with realistic characters.

When a client comes to Lizzy concerned that her sister is missing, she tells Lizzy that she is sure that a exercise/weight loss guru is responsible. So she is paying Lizzy to attend his seminars and take his training. Lizzy thinks it is a waste of money and time, but she agrees to try it for a while. Meanwhile another overweight woman is being held in a cabin and being forced to lose weight. This was an interesting book. I don't want to give it away but it was fun. Maybe it is my twisted weight loss efforts that found this book interesting. Anyway, Lizzy is still compelling and her relationships are growing. It is good to see growth in her and others in the story. I like that they handle more than one case at a time. That is the way a real private investigator would work. On to the next book.

I read the Kindle version, which isn't listed here. The story moved along at a good clip, but sometimes it was challenging to keep strack of all the characters between the two cases. The character list via the Kindle app wasn't much help here.
