About this audiobook
Meet Easie Damasco: rogue, thieving swine, and total charmer
Even the wicked can’t rest when a vicious warlord and the force of enslaved giants he commands invade their homeland. Damasco might get away in one piece, but he’s going to need help.
Big time.
“A fast–paced, witty and original fantasy, reminiscent of Scott Lynch and Fritz Leiber.” —Adrian Tchaikovsky, author of Empire in Black & Gold
“Fast-paced, quick-witted, engaging; as apt a description of Easie Damasco, reluctant hero, as of the novel itself.” —Juliet E. McKenna, author of the The Tales of Einarinn series.

- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5Meh.This book can be a fun diversion -- I did read it all the the way through in the course of a day, after all -- but it's not very original and it's not all that well written. I have as little idea of what motivates some of the characters now as I did when I first met them, three hundred and fifty pages ago, and I didn't believe in the danger that they faced, not least because I was given no reason to particularly root for anyone other than Saltlick -- and only for him in absence of anyone else reasonably sympathetic. The treatment of Saltlick's character was terrible: he's smarter than you think, but let's keep treating him and other giants like him like a total idiot throughout the narrative (not just the characters doing this, but the narrative as a whole). That and at least one inexplicable volte-face that goes against a given character's whole worldview mean I can't recommend this. It's light, even sort of labouredly funny, but so light it'll have melted from my memory by morning.(And in case you were wondering, my memory is generally pretty good. I can quote you word for word a conversation my girlfriend and I had seven years ago. My short term memory is a little bit shot from meds, but I remember plenty of bad books: this managed to be, instead, decidedly mediocre and totally unremarkable.)
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Nice pacing, and the protagonist's voice is fairly enjoyable, but the events failed to grab my interest.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Fun fantasy.Lured in by a fun title and silly cover but sold on the humorous excerpt I read. This is your typical fantasy setting, but no detailed world building and in-depth discussion of how the magic system works. Bang we hit the 1st fantasy trope (of hanging thief) before we are off on a wise cracking adventure set amongst potential civil war and the odd giant. If there are no surprises there is much relief that Tallerman delivers, the action is well done, the pace fast and the characters flesh out and (the most difficult) constantly amusing. Easie damasco is great rogue to hang a tale on and it doesn't even stop the humour or drag the story as he slowly matures. If fact it’s a hook to hang the next book on, one that I will be buying.Recommended to fantasy fans and those looking for a fast paced read.
