About this audiobook

"The 22nd installment in the Andy Carpenter series is just as delightful and entertaining as the first, thanks in large part to Grover Gardner's narration." -AudioFile Magazine

Lawyer Andy Carpenter and his golden retriever, Tara, work to free a man who risked it all to help a dog in need

Lawyer Andy Carpenter and his wife, Laurie, enjoy walking their dogs, Tara and Sebastian. By this point in their marriage, it’s routine. When out for one of their strolls, their simple ritual isn’t so simple anymore. Across the street, a man is mistreating his dog. Three things happen at once: Andy yells, Laurie runs to stop the abuse, and so does a closer passerby, who so thoroughly beats the owner that both are arrested when the cops arrive.

Andy scoops up the dog and takes him to the Tara Foundation, the dog rescue organization that’s always been his true passion. Meanwhile, at the police station, the passerby is identified as Matthew Jantzen, and he’s wanted for murder. Andy and Laurie are struck by the fact that Jantzen, a man on the run, would nevertheless intervene to help a dog, and decide to find out more.

Dog Eat Dog, the twenty-second installment in the Andy Carpenter series, features the charming cast of characters - old and new - that David Rosenfelt is known for and the dogs that accompany them.

Just love this authors books..however’ this one was a wee harder to keep track of the plot etc..a little too many long unnecessary diversions that threw me off. Nevertheless’ I do love this author and the usual reader…not too keen on other readers though..which I have come across re Andy Carpenter stories.

How fun! Rarely does a narrator match the character so precisely. I can’t imagine the hard copy would be nearly as much fun as this audiobook series.
I’ve missed several of the more recent books in this series and I was thrilled to stumble on several new books.

Each book is a stand alone story with returning characters of course but you can pick up the historical thread pretty easily.

I suggest “listening” from book one just for the joy and fun of anticipating the next read.

I'm not sure how I first discovered David Rosenfelt's Andy Carpenter series, but I'm sure glad I did. They're fun, interesting, surprising, mysteries, and there's always a dog or two (or more) involved. Right up my alley. For the uninitiated, Andy is a lawyer who keeps trying to retire early after a surprising event in the first book in the series leaves him wealthy enough to do so. Yet 23 books later, he's still lawyering because he's a sucker for an underdog client - not to mention for a dog. I was pleased to get an advance copy of this book from Macmillan Audio, but since I'm not caught up on the series I did get a spoiler or two by "reading ahead", but nothing terribly unexpected. And I was happy to find the same cast of characters (with an addition or two), the same self-deprecating (and at times snarky) sense of humor, and another interesting mystery for Andy & friends to solve. And as always, Grover Gardner's narration is perfect for Andy's personality. Now I'm anxious to go back to where I'd left off in the series and see how those new characters came about.
Thanks to Netgalley and Macmillan Audio for providing a copy for an unbiased review.
