Of all the things that Harry has done to me, she’s never stood me up before. But I stayed past sunset, stayed all night, and all through the next day and… Well. At least no one else found me. But she didn’t come and find me either.  I guess there’s the possibility that she didn’t know where to go. Or that she couldn’t get there in time. Or that she didn’t hear the broadcast, even though I broadcast the same information every hour on the hour for two days straight. I like to think that she would have remembered that day, would remember where it was—we hardly went anywhere for six years, every instance of it stands out stark in my mind.  I guess there is a pretty good chance that she didn’t hear the broadcast. The radio was left behind in the garage, and what are the odds she’s found another functioning one? Maybe I should…maybe I should leave a note. Or leave a radio. BREAKER WHISKEY is an ongoing, daily microfiction podcast exploring one woman’s journey to find additional survivors in an America made empty by an unknown event in the late 1960s. In 1968, two women find themselves in rural Pennsylvania during what turns out to be some kind of apocalyptic event. By the time they discover that everyone else is gone, it’s too late to figure out what happened. Despite not liking each other at all, the women work together to survive, until six years later one of them sets out on her own, driving around the country to find other survivors. This is her, calling out to anyone who might listen. BREAKER WHISKEY is made by Lauren Shippen and recorded on a 1976 Midland CB Radio. It releases daily, Monday through Friday. If you would like the entire week's episodes as one single download, released on Monday, you can support the show at patreon.com/breakerwhiskey or by becoming an Atypical Plus supporter at atypicalartists.co/support.
