About this audiobook

In Citizen K-9, bestselling author David Rosenfelt masterfully blends mystery with dogs and humor to create an investigative team that readers will be rooting for book after book.

The Paterson Police Department has created a cold case division, and they want to hire the private investigators known as the K Team to look into the crimes. After all, Corey Douglas and his K-9 partner, German shepherd Simon Garfunkel, recently retired from the force. Plus, another K Team member, Laurie Collins, used to be a cop as well.

Their first cold case hits home for the K Team. A decade ago, at Laurie's tenth high school reunion, two of their friends simply… vanished. At the time Laurie had just left the force, and Corey was in a different department, so they had no choice but to watch from the sidelines. With no leads, the case went cold.

As the team starts to delve deeper into the events leading up to that night—reopening old wounds along the way—the pieces start to come together. But someone wants to stop them from uncovering the truth behind the disappearance, by any means necessary.

Being a huge fan of David Rosenfelt's Andy Carpenter series, checking out this 3rd installment in his new K Team series was a no-brainer for me, even though I'd been unaware of it previously. As a spin-off of Andy Carpenter, there are lots of familiar names and locations here, so in that way it was easy enough to jump in to this series at book 3. And while the tone is a bit different (as it should be since the first-person narration is from a different character), the heart and humor is still there. And yes, the dogs are there as well.
This is a book about a series of friends and colleagues who've formed a private investigation service. They connected to do investigations for Andy Carpenter, but he's notorious for avoiding clients whenever possible, so they've branched out into taking on other clients. In this instance, they're hired by the Paterson Police Department to investigate the disappearance of high school classmates of two of the team members 10 years prior, on the night of their 10-year high school reunion. The deeper they get into the investigation, the more they realize that while the disappearance had never seemed to make sense, there was something much darker behind it than anyone had ever expected.
There's everything I've come to expect from David Rosenfelt in this book - a good mystery, interesting characters, locations that feel real, humor, heart, and a love of dogs. I listened to the audiobook and while it was a jolt at first to not hear the usual fabulous narrating voice for the Andy Carpenter audiobooks, Fred Berman did an excellent job narrating this one, and I quickly acclimated to his voice + Rosenfelt's style. And I can't wait to go back and listen to the other K Team books.
