“The phenomenal B. A. Paris has done it again! I devoured The Dilemma in one sitting—it grabbed me from the very first page and wouldn’t let go until I’d finished. Secrets, guilt, shame and heartbreak—this story has it all in spades.”—Sandie Jones, New York Times bestselling author of The Other Woman
Knowing the truth will destroy her. Keeping it secret will destroy him.
It’s Livia’s 40th birthday, and her husband Adam is throwing her the party of a lifetime to make up for the wedding they never had. Everyone she loves will be there, except her daughter Marnie, who’s studying abroad. But Livia is secretly glad Marnie won’t be there.
Livia has recently uncovered a secret about their daughter which, if revealed, will shake the foundation of their family to its core. She needs to tell Adam, but she’s waiting until the party is over so they can have this last happy time together.
Adam, meanwhile, has his own surprise for Livia: he’s arranged for Marnie to secretly fly back for the party. But before Marnie arrives, Adam hears some terrible news. Now he too is faced with a dilemma: Does he share what he's learned with his wife? Is hiding the truth the same as telling a lie? And how far are Adam and Livia willing to go to protect the ones they love—and give each other a last few hours of happiness?

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I love everything B.A. Paris writes. This story is very different from anything I have ever listened to. It is probably not my favorite by this author but it is a good story.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This story is awesome though I wanna slap both husband and wife like, "sit down and listen!!!! Listen Linda, Listen!!!"
- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5Well written. Audiobook has great narration and keeps the reader interested. This is a family drama, and really about lack of communication and how secrets tear people apart. The plot is really quite horrific, and the ending disappointing. Now I will vent and this is a little bit of a spoiler: While the character of Adam may not have known the details of connecting flights in a country different from the origin or destination, the author and editor should have been aware that 27 minutes is impossible for someone coming from HK, stopping in Cairo, before going to Amsterdam to make a connecting flight. When calculating the time, Adam doesn’t take into account time for getting off the arrival flight, going through immigration and customs (which is a requirement even when the airport isn’t the traveler’s final destination), and making it to the departure gate before it closes (which is usually more than 15 minutes prior to departure, especially for an international flight). I’ve had to do this in Toronto, Amsterdam, and Beijing - if you need to catch a connecting flight in a country different from country of origin it is always best to allow about two hours between flights for immigration.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Very depressing, but good. Not one of my favorites but this author.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5What a depressing story!!! It was good, but DAMN it was so dark and sad.
- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5Boring. I loved behind closed doors and thought this would be similar. I was wrong.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I couldn’t stop listening to this book, I really enjoyed the storyline and the characters.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5I felt like I was watching a lifetime movie. The book was a quick read but it wasn’t what I was expecting. I would not consider this as a thriller, definitely not a psychological thriller. There was a lot of unnecessary stuff in this book. It could have almost been cut in half. There was about 15% left in the book when I was just ready for it to end. I’m a bit disappointed due to all the hype. There was so much potential for this plot line but I feel it missed the mark. Had I been wanting/expecting a lifetime mystery, the rating would be higher.
I had a hard time reading the ebook but the audiobook had great narrators and boosted the rating from 2 stars to 3 stars. - Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5I don't even know what to say except I can't believe I actually made it through the whole thing. I just..... I can't believe this is a book that got published. I don't think I'll ever read a worse book in my life. It's....awful. it's basically two sentences stretched out into a whole novel. Ridiculous.
- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5No mystery here, just very emotionally exhausting if that’s your thing. Love every other book she’s written!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Plot twist towards the end.
Good book just a tad bit slow in the beginning - Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5I am not sure why this book was in thrillers or mystery or even domestic noir. This was a family drama book. If you are looking for a somewhat heartfelt family drama this is it. There's nothing about it that is suspenseful, no mystery and is actually rather depressing. I've loved every book put out by this author but this one missed the mark for the genre it was in.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Well written. These were such difficult decisions for this family to endure.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I am a fan of B. A. Paris, and even though this book is different from her others, I loved it. It’s heartfelt look into a family through secrets, surprises, and loss had my attention from the start. I highly recommend this book.
