About this audiobook

Betrayal was just the beginning…

Melanie Hale is a devoted mother to her two children, a diligent caregiver to her ailing mother-in-law and a trusted neighbor in their wealthy Louisiana community. Above all, she’s a loving partner to her wonderful husband, Collin.

Then there are the parts of herself that Mel keeps hidden. She’s exhausted, worried and unfulfilled. So much so that one night, after a writers’ group meeting, Mel begins an affair with a successful local author named Luke. Suddenly she’s transformed into a role she doesn’t recognize—a woman who deceives with unseemly ease. A woman who might be capable of just about anything.

When Mel finds Luke’s dead body in his lavish rented house, she realizes just how high the stakes have become. Not only does she have to keep her affair a secret in order to preserve her marriage, but she desperately needs to avoid being implicated in Luke’s death. But who would want to kill him? Who else in her life is keeping secrets? And most terrifying of all, how far will they—and she—go to keep those secrets hidden?

Good read; kept me interested the whole way through. The book explains how emotional neglect of yourself and impulsive decisions due to it can harm more than help; even though it makes you feel good at the time.

This was another good read for me. The mother is a basic character, traditional. It was a good story with a few gaspy twists. Almost as good as On a Quiet Street, not quite as much suspense as that book.

Excellent book! I rarely (never) leave reviews, but this one had me hooked and engaged throughout. I couldn't wait for an opportunity to turn it back on and keep listening every chance I got. Definitely recommend.☆☆☆☆☆

I feel like it dragged on and on and I did not really care for the characters.

The narrator did a good job.

I enjoyed the story but I’m taking a star off because of the main character. I personally don’t like her very much.

She decides to have an affair and then starts lying a lot and begins making bad decisions when she finds her lover murdered.

I didn’t see the plot twist coming, I was genuinely surprised when the killer was revealed. The whole time I kept changing who I thought the killer was.

If you enjoy a story with twists, turns, blackmail and bored house wives then you will like this book.

I finished this within 24 hours. Just couldn't stop listening. Xe Sands always delivers. The book is riveting! The author is very thorough and really drew me in to all the characters. I loved every second of this one and you will too! Highly recommend this one.

The first 50% of the book is just the main character catastrophizing nonstop about her own affair, but the rest of the story wasn’t terrible. A few too many side characters and extraneous plot points. Still an okay low-effort listen.
