About this audiobook

When the game is deception, nothing is as it seems in this novel of cunning psychological suspense by the #1 Amazon Charts bestselling author of I’ll Never Tell.

Do you want to play a game?

Twelve years ago Jessica Williams escaped a cult. Thanks to the private detective who rescued her, she reintegrated into society, endured an uncomfortable notoriety, and tried to put it all behind her. Then, at an airport bar, Jessica meets a woman with an identical name and birth date. It appears to be just an odd coincidence—until a week later, when Jessica finds her bank account drained and her personal information stolen.

Following a trail of the grifter’s victims, each with the same name, Jessica gathers players—one by one—for her own game. According to her plan, they’ll set a trap and wait for the impostor to strike again. But plans can go awry, and trust can fray, and as Jessica tries to escape the shadows of her childhood, the risks are greater than she imagined. Now, confronting the casualties of her past, Jessica can’t help but wonder…

I feel manipulated by the 5 star reviews. It was very disappointing and definitely not worthy of 5 stars. Although the narrator was awesome (as usual) the story itself was just okay. They aha moments at the very end of the story were not surprising at all and made me just thank the author for filling in that plot hole, more like a “cool, cool!” response. I am not even sure it’s a psychological thriller either. There wasn’t anything scary about it, in my opinion.

Finished this audiobook in a couple of days. It was hard to stop listening. Narrator was fantastic (maybe the best there is?). The rare thriller where the ending measured up.

I read this book based on people’s reviews so I felt like I should leave one. I found this book semi hard to follow and not that great. The writing isn’t bad but it felt all over the place to me.

My first book from this author and I'm hooked.
I loved that she really let you get to know characters and they weren't weak whiny babies.

If you grow up in a cult, do you ever truly escape that brainwashed mindset?

I admit I’m fascinated by all things cult-related. You Can’t Catch Me gives us a main character who’d been raised in a cult, escaped, then later becomes a crime victim. How she handles things from there is intense, because only fighters break free from a cult’s grasp.

A quick read with a complex but easy to follow plot and a few great twists!

The narration is excellent, keeping me thoroughly engaged throughout.

I was just not a fan of the story but it was well written and narrated well.

This was a unique book to me. It started off slow and drags for many chapters. The character development was good but no one was endearing. This book didn't begin to pick up until the last half of the book. It wasn't horrible but it just wasn't for me. However, I am certain that, 'You Can't Catch Me', will appeal to many. The ending was very good and surprising but not enough to snag two more stars. I give this book 3 stars.

Jessica, Jessi, Jess, JJ… wow, I couldn’t put it down. Great read and even though there are 5 people with the same name it was easy to follow along. Narrators did a great job too.

Jessica Williams has just been fired from her investigative journalism job for plagiarism. She decides to go to a resort in Mexico to escape the press coverage. While waiting at the airport, she finds a woman with the exact same name. After playing a game of twenty questions to see what other similarities they share, they exchange contact information. When Jessica returns home from Mexico, she discovers large cash withdrawals have been made from her bank account and that Jessica Two is the one who took the money. After doing some digging, convinced she's pulled this scam before, Jessica is determined to catch Jessica Two by reaching out to other Jessica's on Facebook. When she gets some responses from other victim's, she sets a plan in motion.

I love when I read the first few words of a book and already know I'm going to love it. Everything this author writes is so good, she has such talent! Everything about this novel is interesting - Jessica's upbringing, all the Jessica's, the outcome.. everything!! I couldn't turn the pages fast enough. I absolutely loved the big twist. I look forward to reading more from Catherine McKenzie!

Thank you to Netgalley and Lake Union Publishing for granting my wish to read an ARC.

McKenzie Strikes Again. I first began reading McKenzie a couple of years ago with The Good Liar, and she continues to amaze me with the stories she is able to craft. There's all kinds of things going on here. We've got discussions of images and cancel culture. We've got discussions of plagiarism and cults. We've got ... other things that would be a spoiler to reveal. All in a fairly taut mystery with enough action to be awesome. Oh, and absolutely do not read the end first or you'll spoil everything, moreso than in most books. Very much recommended.

Wow! You know it’s going to be a good book when you are yelling to Jessica in the first chapter ‘Don’t do it!’ and then an uneasiness comes over you. Starts with a bang out of the gate and then come the twists, like the first part of a roller coaster. Ms. McKenzie throws small bones your way to make you feel comfortable and a little cocky as to what you have figured out. Then just as you know the end is in site and you are slightly disappointed cause you still have questions and it can’t possible end like this, you are brought crashing to a halt and everything is revealed. Original storyline, great characters...some likable, others not so much. It’s a story within a story and I couldn’t figure out how or when it would come together. But it did....even though I wanted one part to work out. ?. Can’t wait to read this author’s next book! Thanks to Ms. McKenzie, Lake Union Publishing and NetGalley for this ARC. Opinion is mine alone.

This story grabbed me from the first page, and didn't let go. Now I'm familiar with this author's work, which is how I chose this book, and yet, she still was able to surprise me all the way to the end.Jessica Williams, yup, a name you will be very familiar with as you read, but there is depth here, and most you will never expect. A little bit of Cults and Grifters here, and how they meld together is quite mind blowing, and con upon con. 'I love how the mind of this author works, and she keeps me guessing with bombshells and twist that I never saw coming, a book that will keep you page-turning and gasping!I received this book through Net Galley and Lake Union Publishing, and was not required to give a positive review.

Every now and then we have the pleasure of reading a book that totally captivates and surprises. You Can’t Catch Me by Catherine McKenzie is that book. Jessica Williams was raised in a cult and was rescued twelve years ago. She rebuilt her life and all was well until a chance encounter at the airport. She was approached by a stranger who turned out to share her name and birthday. The two enjoyed a few drinks and discussed the serendipity. Within days, it became clear that the woman had stolen her personal information and all of her money in her bank account. She eventually put a plan in place to contact other Jessicas to see if the same crime had been committed. And she was right. With their help, she set in motion a plan to set a trap for the criminal. You will need to read You Can’t Catch Me to find out how the story evolves. If you like your mysteries unpredictable, you will love this book. Highly recommended. Thank you to Lake Union Publishing and NetGalley for the e-ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This is another great thriller from Catherine McKenzie. Once you read the first page you enter into a roller coaster ride with lots of twists and turns along the way. Just when you think you have everything figured out, she throws in another twist and you realize you were wrong - very wrong. I didn't figure this one out until the bomb shell was released near the end.Jessica escaped from a cult and Liam helped her re-enter real life again. He remains one of the most important people in her life and reluctantly agrees to help her - but her plans go way beyond his comfort zone. As the book begins, she has just lost her job as a reporter for plagiarism. She is sitting in an airport bar waiting for a flight to Mexico for a vacation hoping that the stories about her will disappear by the time she gets back. Imagine her surprise when she finds out the woman next to her has the exact same name and birthday as she does. They play 20 questions to look for other similarities in their lives and talk about where they grew up, their mother's maiden names etc. Imagine the surprise when Jessica gets back from a week with no social media and finds out that all of her money has been withdrawn from her account. She suspects who did it but can't get help from the bank or the police so she starts trying to solve the problem on her own. She begins to look for other women with the same name and finds several who have also been conned by the same person who stole her money. She and the other Jessicas set a trap to catch the thief. But how far will she go to get revenge? The results may surprise you but it all made sense in the context of the novel. This is a fantastic thriller that will keep you up late into the night while you quickly turn the pages to find out if Jessica succeeds with her clever cat and mouse game to catch the thief.

Jessica Williams has been robbed in a clever scheme. She is just not going to stand for this. Jessica begins an intricate plan to get her money back.Jessica has a unique past. She was raised in a cult, LOT or The Land of Todd. This part of the book is fascinating. It adds so much to the story and the characters. As this story began to unfold, I was afraid of all the “Jessica’s”… there are quite a few in this tale. I hate it when an author names a character very similar to another main character. So, I thought this would not work for me. But, Catherine McKenzie did a fabulous job. You will have to read this to see how she did it.Catherine McKenzie just keeps getting better and better. This is her best book yet! No doubt about it! I love an unpredictable story and this one just keeps twisting and turning. Just when you think you have it figured out, it twists again.I received this novel from the publisher for a honest review.

If you don't have this book on your wish list or preorder, now is the time. I read this book in a couple of days. I really enjoyed the characters, Jessica and her friend, Liam as well as the way the story line played out.It is scary how easy it is for someone to steal another person's identity and get away with it. However, Jessica Two did not count on Jessica One. Jessica One had Liam and a group of other Jessicas's on her side. Yet, when it comes to love, she is a bit clueless. I could not believe that she did not recognize how much Liam loved her. While, I was rooting for him and Jessica to get together, this book is not about the romance but is a thriller. Just when I thought I had the story figured out, the author hits me with one last twist at the end. Don't let this book come and go without reading it.
