About this audiobook

What happens when the one that got away comes back? Find out in this sparkling comedy from #1 bestseller Mhairi McFarlane

‘Think of the great duos of history. We're just like them.’

‘You mean like Kylie and Jason? Torvill and Dean? Sonny and Cher?’

‘I think you’ve missed the point, Rachel.’

Rachel and Ben. Ben and Rachel. It was them against the world. Until it all fell apart. It’s been a decade since they last spoke, but when Rachel bumps into Ben one rainy day, the years melt away.

They’d been partners in crime and the best of friends. But life has moved on: Ben is married. Rachel is not. Yet in that split second, Rachel feels the old friendship return. And along with it, the broken heart she’s never been able to mend.

Hilarious, heartbreaking and everything in between, you’ll be hooked from their first ‘hello’.

‘Very very witty and funny. Left me in awe … a total gem’ Marian Keyes

‘The funniest, most romantic book I've read since One DayLisa Jewell

I could not make it through Chapter 1. The narrator’s accent was so difficult to understand I could not follow along without so much concentration the story disappeared. She’s also one of those people who make a rattly noise when she inhales and that was a definite book stopper. Maybe if you’re from Scotland this would be a great book but if you’re in North America not so much.

Awful narrator and recording!! I love the author but it's the first audiobook that I just couldn't follow only for the terrible recording.

At first I had some difficulty getting into it as I had to concentrate harder as I was unfamiliar with the narrator's accent but once I got into the story, it ceased to be a problem. I particularly enjoyed the witty and funny conversations Rachel had with the people she socialised with. It's like, her personality really came through and she is as sassy as the other characters say she is.

I really enjoyed this book. It was heartwarming and hilarious. I almost stopped listening because I didn’t particularly like the narrator’s voice, but I’m glad I hung in there. It well worth the listen/ read.

This book was really unsatisfying and the worst out of Mhairi’s that I’ve listened to. I really like her other books but this one was lacking.

I wasn’t sure about this book at first but I’m so glad I kept listening. It made me smile like an eejit and laugh out loud on my commute.

I personally like some of her other books better (“don’t you forget about me”) but this was an original and I love her rom coms.

The main thing I really disliked was her active pursuit of a married man. She knew it was wrong but persisted. It really put a damper on the romantic part of this book.

Wonderfully hilarious. A perfect pick-me-up and brilliant for anyone looking for a nice, fluffy romance with plenty of banter and loads of funny remarks. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I must admit, after reading a couple of books by Mhairi McFarlane, that the woman is really skilled at writing dialogue between characters. That, and inner monologues ? Also, I absolutely loooooved the narrator. She made the characters really come to life.
