About this audiobook

'I absolutely loved this book!' Maxine Morrey

What's a girl to do when Prince Charming turns into a frog?

City girl Sophie has married the prince (or landed gentry - close enough), moved to his pile (which is more accurate a description than she’d anticipated) and is set to live happily ever after with the love of her life . . . until she finds the other half of her perfect life in the stables with the stable girl, and they’re definitely not grooming the horses.

Shocked and appalled, Sophie’s no happier to learn that she’s supposed to 'just get on with it'. After all, according to her mother-in-law, she got the title . . . they even overlooked her family’s ‘new money’ status.

But Sophie is no one's doormat and there's no way she's going to turn a blind eye to her husband's infidelity. There may be some bumps on the road, but Sophie is going to find the life she deserves.

The course of true love never did run smooth, but with Phoebe MacLeod it always gets a second chance. Perfect for fans of Jo Watson, Mhairi McFarlane and Catherine Walsh.

What our readers think

Readers find this title a heartwarming and engaging story that focuses on the main character's journey through life, love, and career. The narrative is unique and keeps the readers interested with unexpected twists. Although some readers found the book lacking in humor and character development towards the end, overall, it was a pleasant and well-paced read with a positive message about starting anew after difficult experiences.

Loved it right up until the abrupt and unsatisfying ending. I thought maybe the audio file was missing chapters, but according to other sources that’s how the book ends. No sequel seems forthcoming. Disappointed for sure.

Didn't seem like there was any story behind this book. I love Phoebe McLeod's other books but this one was a big fat nope

First book by this author. Premise was great, loved how it started. But, it is not a comedy and it's not romantic at all! I find Sophie to be very "daddy, help me!"girl, although the author was trying sooooo hard to paint her like one independent city girl.
    SPOILER!
She came from wealth, married to a baron who she thought had money, he cheated on her, she left and ended up with the first guy she met after leaving her husband and who (surprise, surprise!) was loaded! She "saved" herself from bad life by going to her parents who found her and payed for a good lawyer, lend her money and then she payed them back with the money she got from divorce (and that money her dad gave her as a wedding gift!). So, "you can do it easy" bullshit is good motivational quote only if you have loaded parents who can help you! And James was portraited nice, loving and suddendly he was bastard. On the other hand, Elliot was pretty dull character and I think the author needed to put more effort in describing him.
To conclude... book was super predictable, but quick summer read! Two things I loved were the narrator (excellent!!) and the fact book was written in first person!

Great story about how better life could be after a divorce. I’m glad that I haven’t had to deal with a divorce been happy married for 47 years.
Thanks for making it audio with a very pleasant narrator instead of a reader. It ready makes it easy to listen. Thanks can’t wait for more of your stories

It’s my first time for this author, and now it wouldn’t be my last.
I loved the flow, it’s different than many. It focused on the heroin, her life, her career, how she felt, and how she coped with her turn of events. Finding love again was not the main point and I loved that. The author is really a different one in a very good way. Also there was no one boring moment, very second counted and was interesting.

The book started out fine. The plot was interesting enough to keep on in the background but towards middle/end, I feel like things took a turn. I stuck it out in hopes of things getting better but I'm not sure if it was worth it.
    SPOILER

The relationship dynamic, after divorcing James, just seemed too odd. There was really no substance to the beginning of the new relationship. Yes, they met on the train & had a few conversations here and there, & lived in the same building, but to sleep together & immediately ask if you're dating (with no real basis to the relationship) just threw me off.

I feel like it's critical but I could barely stick through the end to finish it.

I’m an avid reader of romantic comedy, but this unfortunately lacked both. I didn’t find it funny at all, and I felt like it ran out of steam somewhere in the middle. And then at the end it really lost it.
It deserved at least a few more chapters, and certainly some more character development. I felt like I was watching a hand drawing storyboard of a cartoon before they start animating it.
I don’t mean to sound harsh, I really wanted to love this book. The premise was promising, the beginning was really good, if it did drag a bit.
I think that was my biggest issue. The first part of the book was so well fleshed out and the rest felt so rushed.
