Within days of wishing she could change her life, Fran Cooper is acting assistant to a celebrity, on a yacht in the Mediterranean, and en route to a tiny Italian island and the glittering Crystal Ball, along with the world’s rich and famous.
When she – quite literally – bumps into a handsome American called Evan, a man able to keep his cool in the face of chaos, the magic really begins.
Evan makes her a promise: no last names, no life stories, just one unforgettable night. Yet Evan belongs at the Crystal Ball and Fran is a gatecrasher. They may be soulmates, but their homes are an ocean apart, and their lives a world apart. They’ll never meet again – unless, on a night like this, everything can change forever…

- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Good narration but average story line. Not a romance really.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Fran Cooper has been living a good but not exciting life with her fiance, Stew and temping for a local agency when she accepts a 5 day job as a PA. What she doesn't expect is to be working for infamous singer, Juliette, and helping her prepare to perform at the annual Crystal Ball. Things get crazy from there when Fran spends the first day on the job boarding a yacht and traveling to Italy. Juliette seems nice until she leaves Fran in an Italian town with no money or transportation, but somehow, Fran lands on her feet and ends up attending the celebrated Crystal Ball on her own.On a Night Like This is more women's fiction than romance as advertising would suggest. The love interest doesn't appear until halfway through the book, and the story really isn't about him at all. Fran's dissatisfying life with her fiance and finding out where she belongs in the world is the real plot. Fran's character is well developed but most others in the story are not. However, the parts of the novel that show Fran broadening her life experiences as she meets new people is the strength of the story. Overall, On a Night Like This is good story about a women's self-discovery.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5On a Night Like This by Lindsey KelkMy rating: 5 of 5 stars#FirstLine ~ 'Once upon a time, in a faraway kingdom, there was a woman called Francesca who couldn't be on time to save her life,' Jess announced as I blew through the doors of Suzette's Cafe on Wednesday morning. This book was everything I needed to take my mind off of all things going on in the world. I feel like that is a gift that Kelk has given readers, which I appreciate so very much! I loved it from start to finish. It was such a great story with amazing characters. I was immediately pulled into the story and felt all the feels! It is one of those book that could be put up on the big screen or made into a mini series. I highly recommend this book!
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5On a Night Like This was the perfect change of pace from the mysteries and thrillers that I've been reading lately. It was absolutely delightful and the perfect reminder of why I enjoy books like this so much. Fran is struggling to find a job and because of this is feeling a bit stalled with her life. Her relationship with her fiancee isn't the best and she is just feeling a bit lost. And then she jumps at this short term job opportunity and everything changes. One of the things that I liked most about this book was that it was unexpectedly funny. It was also a really charming read. In fact, this book reminded me a bit of Confessions of a Shopaholic almost. It was something about the humorous situations that Fran kept finding herself in that made me think of that book. It just made this book feel like such a fun ride. I found myself swept along within the pages watching Fran trying to navigate all of these new circumstances and experiences that kept happening to her. And the entire experience was just plain fun. My one word of caution is that the development of the relationship is really based off of just one night for the most part. That's a bit fast or maybe not enough time for a lot of readers. For me, I think that the author made it work because although the book focuses on that one night there is more to it. I don't want to say more than that because it might be considered a spoiler. Suffice it to say that I was completely behind the relationship developing between Evan and Fran. I was especially behind Fran discovering what she really wanted in life and figuring out what was important to her. I think that readers who enjoy romance, women's fiction, and just reads that make you smile will want to pick this book up. It's one that I can easily recommend and I look forward to reading more by this author in the future.Bottom Line: A humorous and delightful romance!Disclosure: I received a copy of this book thanks to the publisher and TLC book tours in exchange for an honest review.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5ometimes a bright, breezy romance is just what the reading doctor orders and that is what you will find if you pick up On a Night Like This. It was a light, easy reading book that I pretty much read in one day. I found the characters to be entertaining and the story to be engaging.Fran’s life is pretty well organized – she is engaged to a man she has known for a long time. She works as an assistant going from temp job to temp job so she doesn’t get bored. Her fiancé doesn’t like when she goes out of town but it’s out of town jobs that bring her the most joy. But one must, right?Fran ends up taking a job that sends her way out of town as an assistant to a star who is headlining the biggest celebrity/charity affair of the season. All she has to do is keep her calm and get her there on time. For the first time in her career she fails at her job but somehow succeeds at life. This is a fast paced and fun read full of exciting locations, fancy people and one good old fashioned romance. Of course not everything goes smoothly for what would be the fun for the reader in that? But rest assured that in turning the pages of this book you will enjoy an escape from your reality into the fun life of Fran and her friends – both the famous and the not so very.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Francesca Cooper is in a rut. Working as an assistant for a temp agency, she has never gotten her career off the ground. Stew, her boyfriend of twelve years and now fiance is embarrassed of her position, but won't let her seek anything outside of their small town of Sheffield. Francesca decides to take a chance and applies for a celebrity PA gig in London. The job whisks Francesca away aboard a luxury yacht for five days while she assists the superstar singer, Juliette, on her way to the event of the year, the Crystal Ball. After several ups and downs with Juliette, Francesca finds herself at the Crystal Ball alone, but she doesn't want to waste this chance of a lifetime. While trying to navigate between billionaires, Francesca bumps into Evan, who agrees to be her guide. Sparks fly, but Francesca holds true to her engagement. Will she take another chance and follow her heart? On a Night Like This is a romantic comedy that hits all the right notes. Francesca's story is fun and feel-good while exploring failure and taking chances. Francesca is completely relatable; she is super organized professionally and a complete mess personally. Francesca is an overachiever and a people-pleaser who has lost who she is until she takes a chance on a once in a lifetime job with an over-the-top celebrity. I loved seeing Fran excel at her job and form a friendship with Juliette. Juliette was a surprising character and more complex than I would have imagined. I'm glad that Fran took the time to peel back some of her layers. The Crystal Ball was described perfectly and I could imagine the many rooms in all of their overdone, sparkling glory. The romance is sweet and completely swoon-worthy and gives off a Cinderella type vibe. Evan is charming from the start and I loved that he went at Francesca's pace and did not push her to do more than she wanted at any point. While I enjoyed the romance, I liked seeing Francesca grow and realize and expand her horizons even more. This book was received for free in return for an honest review.
