The fate of the world rests on a blade’s edge.

Queen Erida and her consort, Taristan, continue their march through Allward, crumbling castles and conquering kingdoms with an unstoppable army and unthinkable forces of darkness.

With no choice but to raise an army of their own, Corayne and her Companions face perilous lands, dangerous mercenaries, and seething monsters, as they rally a divided world behind them. But will they be strong enough to confront the latest evil that Queen Erida and Taristan have unlocked? Or will it consume their world in flames, dashing all hope for victory completely.

In book one, Coryane was able to close one Spindle, but her quest isn't over. Taristan, her uncle is still out there, searching for more Spindles to open so 'He Who Waits' can enter their realm, and with Erida, marching across the lands with the goal of her becoming Empresses of the realm, almost nothing can stop Taristan from achieving his goal, except Coryane and her companions, if they can find enough allies to create an army of their own.

Each chapter is dedicated to one character, what they see, and OMG, it is done so well that the reader instantly feels a deep connection with that character, and with each chapter, the reader can't help but to be engulfed by the character, including the bad guys. You can't stop that small part of you that will root for them to win.

While this is a YA, it is for older readers. It's graphic and the politics, along with the numerous characters/kingdoms, can become confusing. I've had to stop and try to remember who a person was and where they fit into the story, and that's hard when you're listening). But this book is so worth it!

While there is a lot of 'build-up to the action, the wonderful characters, descriptions, and subplots are worth it. *Spoiler, But as a warning, there is a third book coming, and it's going to feel like a long wait!

I only gave the first book of this series 3 stars, but this one earn one more!
