About this audiobook

A high-stakes fantasy rom-com about twin princesses separated at birth—one raised as the crown princess, and the other taken as an infant and raised to kidnap her sister, steal the crown, and avenge the parents' murders—the first novel in a new YA duology from bestselling UK authors Catherine Doyle and Katherine Webber. Perfect for fans of The Selection, My Lady Jane, and Caraval.

Wren Greenrock has always known that one day she’d steal her sister’s place on the throne. Trained from birth to return to the palace and avenge her parents’ murder, she’ll do anything to become queen and protect the community of witches who raised her. Or she would, if only a certain guard wasn’t quite so distractingly attractive, and if her reckless magic would stop causing trouble. . . .

Princess Rose Valhart knows that with power comes responsibility—and she won’t let a small matter like waking up in the desert with an extremely impertinent (and very handsome) kidnapper get in the way of her duty. But life outside the palace is wilder and more beautiful than she ever imagined, and the witches she has long feared might turn out to be the family she never had.

But as coronation day looms and each sister strives to claim her birthright, an old enemy becomes increasingly determined that neither will succeed. Who will ultimately rise to power and wear the crown?

Catherine Doyle

Catherine Doyle grew up beside the Atlantic Ocean in the west of Ireland. Her love of reading began with great Irish myths and legends, and fostered in her an ambition to one day write her own. She holds a first class BA in Psychology and a first class MA in Publishing from the National University of Ireland, Galway, and is the author of the YA Blood for Blood trilogy. The Storm Keeper's Island is her debut middle-grade novel and was inspired by her real-life ancestral home of Arranmore Island, where her grandparents grew up, and the adventures of her many seafaring ancestors. After living in Dublin City for two years, Catherine is now based in Galway but spends a lot of her time in London and the US.

Great story and wonderful narration! The voices performed by both narrators were impressive and after listening to this twice, it continues to hold up. Their performance truly brought this story to life. The world building was carefully crafted and is accessible for all readers, not just fans of high fantasy! There is plenty of action and dual love stories. I'm eager to start the next book!

Great narrator and very entertaining story. The main characters were strong, the romance was there but not overly cringe and the pacing was great! Definitely had me at the edge of my seat waiting for what happens next.

Two twin sisters separated at birth and raised in different worlds? This is the beginning of the story of Wren, a witch, and Rose, a princess. Who will get the crown?

This information-rich story starts off very well; the narration, the division of each sister's story, and the focus on the sisters were well detailed. The thorough presentation of each secondary character, their personalities, and their dialogues were outstanding. I could imagine several places where events were happening simultaneously, though I felt there was more depth in the explanation when they were in the desert and their survival there.

The two sisters are very different, raised by two types of people who have nothing in common, but they all seek one thing in common: that one of them leads the kingdom inherited from their parents. This book might feel a bit more introductory and less impactful since it is the first in the trilogy, but I still recommend it as it reads quickly and is entertaining at the same time. Oh, and before I forget, we have two super interesting and different romances, just as expected. (Translated from Spanish)

Take sisters separated at birth under traumatic circumstances, only one knows of the other, The unaware one is ostensibly the princess, soon to be crowned queen on her eighteenth birthday, but there are events in the offing that will turn both sisters' lives upside down as they learn about each other, what their powers are, and how they've been betrayed. All of this is rolled into a fast-paced and perfectly written story that begs for a sequel. It's a dandy tale.

I liked it quite a bit. From the middle to the end, there are too many dialogues and I feel like there's a lack of action, but the idea and the plot seem original to me. Some points could be refined or detailed more concerning that conclusion, but overall it is entertaining. (Translated from Spanish)
