About this audiobook

“Lynette Noni is a masterful storyteller. A must-read for any fantasy lover!” — SARAH J. MAAS, #1 New York Times Bestselling Author

Seventeen-year-old Kiva Meridan has spent the last ten years fighting for survival in the notorious death prison, Zalindov, working as the prison healer.

When the Rebel Queen is captured, Kiva is charged with keeping the terminally ill woman alive long enough for her to undergo the Trial by Ordeal: a series of elemental challenges against the torments of air, fire, water, and earth, assigned to only the most dangerous of criminals.

Then a coded message from Kiva’s family arrives, containing a single order: “Don’t let her die. We are coming.” Aware that the Trials will kill the sickly queen, Kiva risks her own life to volunteer in her place. If she succeeds, both she and the queen will be granted their freedom.

But no one has ever survived.

With an incurable plague sweeping Zalindov, a mysterious new inmate fighting for Kiva’s heart, and a prison rebellion brewing, Kiva can’t escape the terrible feeling that her trials have only just begun.

From bestselling author Lynette Noni comes a dark, thrilling YA fantasy perfect for fans of Sarah J. Maas, and Sabaa Tahir.

Plot twist for the win!!! I didn’t see that coming, and it was awesome.

    CONTAINS SPOILERS
This book was very enjoyable! It was constructed well. There were two major plot twists. The first one, Jaren being the Prince, I guessed ahead of time. After reading enough fantasy you’re like “ it’d be funny if he was the prince.” Anyway I enjoyed the twist immensely. The second one took me by surprise. The timing of it was awesome. Revealing that Kiva was the rebel princess at the VERY end left me laughing maniacally. Anyway totally recommend it. I am hooked for the rest of the series! There are so many questions I still have left unanswered.

The ending twist was a bit too much for me. I don't like being lied to by the narrator :(

It was slow but the ending is the biggest plot twist so worth it

The narration is not the best, definitely not my style but the actual book itself is great

Oh my goodness... it was kinda a slow start... but it quickly made up for it... I usually can see a plot twist a mile away, but man, oh man, the writer is truly gifted at surprising you... and the emotional reaction that I had to the story... yelling at one point in unabashed rage at the injustice and then crying uselessly at another point feeling the heartbeat of the story flowing through my veins... I HIGHLY recommend this book ... it was truly amazing... now I'm off to listen to the second book in the series... xoxo

    I was bored

I only hear good things about this book and ....well, I wasn't that impressed with it. I got about 2/3's through like does it get better?

Looking through the comments and only see praise and about a "plot twist" that I already figured out as soon as the Rebel Queen came in the picture.

    The trials were were meh

The whole thing felt like a stage play, because it only really took place in one place.

I love a good book that sticks to the basics predictable or not as long as it's exciting....this one is just predictable.

And I can almost guess how the whole series ends.
