About this audiobook

New York Times, USA Today, and Publishers Weekly bestseller! Clashing empires, forbidden romance, and a long-forgotten queen destined to save her people—Tahereh Mafi’s first in an epic, romantic trilogy inspired by Persian mythology.

To all the world, Alizeh is a disposable servant, not the long-lost heir to an ancient Jinn kingdom forced to hide in plain sight.

The crown prince, Kamran, has heard the prophecies foretelling the death of his king. But he could never have imagined that the servant girl with the strange eyes, the girl he can’t put out of his mind, would one day soon uproot his kingdom—and the world.

Perfect for fans of Leigh Bardugo, Tomi Adeyemi, and Sabaa Tahir, this is the explosive first book in a new fantasy trilogy from the New York Times bestselling and National Book Award-nominated author Tahereh Mafi.

“In a tale as exquisitely crafted as one of Alizeh’s own garments, Mafi weaves a spell of destiny and danger, forbidden love and courtly intrigue, magic and revolution.”—Cassandra Clare, #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Last Hours

This Woven Kingdom is an exquisite fantasy. Rich with clever prose, delicious twists, and breathtaking world building. Prepare to be destroyed—this one will wrench at your heart and make it pound, and in the end it will leave you entirely speechless.”—Stephanie Garber, #1 New York Times bestselling author of the Caraval series

Editor's Note

Cinderella vibes…

This enemies-to-lovers tale has an emotional plot, beautiful prose, and major Cinderella vibes when the love interest, a lowly servant, becomes the heir to the Jinn kingdom. Who doesn’t love a long lost queen and a forbidden romance? National Book Award-nominated author Mafi describes this first book in her new fantasy series as “‘Game of Thrones’ set in the Persian empire.”

This was actually very good. I expected this to be more of a pariah cliche lifeswap, but the author is a great at developing the plot. The characters are fleshed out, and there's a bit of mystery thrown in as well.

I really enjoyed this book. While the dialog is very old fashioned due to the time setting, the narrators voice was such a perfect match that I can’t say anything bad about it. My only comment was that the characters act so blaring oblivious at times that it’s hard to believe. While I feel like the very end was sort of rushed compared to the story’s slow pace, I look forward to seeing what will happen in the next book.

Note: By slow pace I really mean appropriately paced; it was just in comparison of the end. This is not an intense action book rather than the introduction to an action book. There were many different characters and concepts that the readers needed to understand that I hope will really come into play in the next book. While one can say that not much actually happened, it was still significant for the actual plot line.

So good that I listened to it twice! I recently recommended Tahereh Mafi to a colleague. I recalled reading the Shatter Me series, but my friend chose this book to start with, and when he got back to me she was so stoked about it that it made me want to reread it. I had remembered the queen disguised as a servant, and I had remembered the prince, but I was thrilled to have forgotten the rest and to thoroughly enjoy reading it again! I am grateful for books like these. And look! Now there’s a sequel I can dive into!

Let me tell you. Honestly if I would have noticed that this was the writer of the shatter me series I would have never picked it up. That's how much I didn't like that series, and while I feel like this books hype is solely on that fact. It was a pretty fun little read nothing really stood out from the rest just another cinderella retelling but it still kept me interested, and wondering what would happen next.

    Spoilers alert.

I did not see that riddle being about the king.

And not a spoiler just a question
If she and her people only need water to survive then when she's washing the floors and wrecking her hands can they not absorb it too??

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I thought the writing was good, the storytelling was compelling, and I really cannot wait for the sequel. Definitely recommended for lovers of good fantasy romance.

    Tahereh is my auto-buy/auto-read author
    Anything she writes, I'll read

And this one was good, considering this is her first YA series outside Shatter ME

    I really loved the narrator
