About this audiobook
Ailesse and her friends change the afterlife in the gripping conclusion to the fantasy duology that began with Bone Crier’s Moon from New York Times bestselling author Kathryn Purdie—perfect for fans of Stephanie Garber and Roshani Chokshi.
Love is a matter of life and death.
Bone Criers have been ferrying the dead into the afterlife for centuries, a dangerous duty only possible with the powers they gain from sacrificing their amourés, the men destined to love them and die. But Bone Criers Ailesse and Sabine—along with Ailesse’s love, Bastien—are working to chart their own course and rewrite the rules of the afterlife. If they don’t break the soul bond between Ailesse and her amouré, she could die—just as Bastien’s father did.
Sabine struggles to maintain her authority as matrone of her famille—the role always destined for her sister—even as she fights to control the violent jackal power within her.
Bastien is faced with a new dilemma as the spirits of the Underworld threaten the souls of his friends—and his father.
Ailesse attempts to resist her mother’s siren song as she’s drawn into her own version of the Underworld. How will she save her friends once she’s cut off from their world?
This pulse-pounding follow-up to Bone Crier’s Moon is a story of love, sisterhood, and determination as three friends find the courage and power to shatter the boundary between the living and the dead.

This really really worked for me. I was unsure how this book would go after the ending of the first, plus my bad luck recently with duologies but this was a lot of fun. I really love the cast of characters, and the relationships and friendships between Sabine, Ailiesse and Bastien was great to follow, especially the new friendship of Sabine and Bastien. I also really liked the new character introduced, Kaz. I was worried from the end of the last book that they were gonna go one way with him but he turned out to be a breath of fresh air, and I love his addition to the group, and his growing relationships with the prior cast.
I will also say I loved the villains in this. Although they weren't the most fleshed out, I do love camp villains who are madly in love with each other, but also crave unlimited power together. Its a little cliche but thats a trope that really works for me.
I also love the building of the world in this book and the lore, especially learning more about the Bone Crier magic, and the gods of hell and heaven, they were each interesting to see.
Although not a perfect book, I found it well paced and the story super engaging, and I'm so glad I finally got to this. It was the perfect easy read after being emotionally wrung out by the final Realm of The Elderlings book. Can't wait to read more from Purdie. - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5These books have deep characters that are instantly relatable. You find yourself immersed in the world and it's absolutely gorgeous!!
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Having gotten used to the narration style during the first book, I was able to appreciate the sequel much more and in some ways I preferred it because it had already set the scene. The characters were fleshed out more and far more action came because of it.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5It feels wrapped up to the point where I feel satisfied about where the story is at the moment.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5True Rating = 4.5 - I wanted more of a certain couple at the end specially in the prologue. Also, I felt there was a wee bit of pacing issue in middle.

- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5I would have enjoyed this book so much better if they had found a better reader for the male chapters. The guy is awful! His voice is fine, but his style is dreadful. It was nearly a deal breaker for both books. Had the story and the female readers not been as good as they were, I wouldn't have been able to push through it.

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5This builds nicely on the first book and adds plenty of new intrigue and action, Alisse's and Sabine's mother shows the extent of her evil and duplicity, Bastien and Cas are willing to risk their lives to save the girls and another player risks even more at the end. I found id a very satisfying conclusion to the duology.
