If I could rate this book 10 out of 10, I would! There were many subplots to both books but the writing never made me confused & all of my questions were answered by the end. I was so glad Mindee Arnett gave more time to Signe & Bonner's backstory & their story overall. I listened to the majority of Shadow & Flame on audio. This duology will be a re-read for me

Wow this did not go as expected. The prologue ripped out my soul, and I spent the rest of the book trying to piece it back together.

Shadow & Flame almost reads like an alternate telling of Onyx & Ivory, rather than a sequel. It's all thanks to two small words: Tone Shift. Kate has the same magic, enemies, and memories, but her perspective is totally different, thanks to the aforementioned prologue.

TBH if you don't have time for the full book, just the first 2 and last 3 chapters would sum everything up.
