About this audiobook
In the realms of The Memory Thief, memories are currency that can be traded for goods, services, skills, and experiences. A group of people—the Gifted—can steal and redistribute memories. Etta is secretly one of them, but she hasn’t used her Gifted abilities since she left the rebel Shadows following her mother’s accident two years ago. But when her mother is again in danger, Etta has no choice but to return to the underground group in order to complete her greatest heist and save her mother’s life. Etta faces startling attacks, unexpected romance, and above all, her own past as she uncovers a conspiracy that challenges everything she knew about herself and the world around her.
In a place where nothing is what it seems, can Etta ever become more than a memory thief?
“Readers, like Etta and her fellow citizens, will be challenged to contemplate the nature of truth … A welcome addition to the YA fantasy canon, The Memory Thief is a suspenseful page-turner, delightfully chock full of unexpected twists and turns.” – Shelf Awareness

- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Well written, pleasant narrator, interesting concept (the trade/purchase of memories).
Some plot twists were a little anticlimactic and the world building could have been more detailed. - Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5Very robotic, lots of plot holes, it was okay, not great.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5audio (teen fiction - magical dystopia adventure)I've only managed about a third of this; the narrator puts me to sleep, though I love listening to her reading, and incidentally I do have to rewind quite a bit. It seems to be a quite satisfactory adventure starring a teen with the power of being able to sift through and steal memories of other people, in a dystopian world where memories are frequently auctioned off, either with or without the owner's consent.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I am intrigued by the idea of a person (rather than a disease) being able to steal memories. That’s what made me pick up this book and I’m so glad that I did. I loved it. It had a little bit of everything; adventure, romance, heartbreak, twists.... There were lots of passages that stuck out for me but these two were my favourites:“If I dwelled on my regrets, I wouldn’t have the strength to get out of bed every morning. We can’t forget what we’ve done, but it’s what we do with those regrets that mould us. We’re given a past to learn from and grow, but sometimes the greatest mistake can change your future for the better.”and “Hardly a minute goes by when I don't think of him, but in a way isn't that a lovely thing Julietta? To be so loved that you're always near one's thoughts? I see him every day through the memories we made together,...
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5I really enjoyed the overall plot of THE MEMORY THIEF.There were some neat revelations and surprises throughout the story, the world was interesting and I Enjoyed the characters. The romance was meh. I am not a fan of the insta-love with no real build up. Etta goes from not trusting Reid to trusting him with her life in a snap. My biggest issue with THE MEMORY THIEF was the pacing. Seems to go from a nice pace with buildup to way too fast towards the end and through the major showdown.I enjoyed the overall story and would read more in this world if more books were written.* This book was provided free of charge from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
