I don't often read this genre due to having served 30 years as a Paramedic prior to retirement & leaving the medical field. I saw and did quite enough and usually, these types of books skew the advanced role of a Paramedic, as it did at times within this one. I picked up on the cause of a 'crime that was designed to appear as a suicide' long before the book alluded to the true cause. I kept repeating to myself "its an organophosphate!" when finally, that fact was revealed. Paramedics don't do as they're told in the field by an angry or otherwise unknown M.D. of any specialty unless that doctor assumes full responsibility of the patient, gets in the MICU & accompanies the pt. to an E.D. Medics also refrain from over-excitability, yelling and seeming to become overwhelmed during ambulance to ED radio transmissions as the narrator did repeatedly and we know which coronary arteries correspond to the leads of a diagnostic ECG. "ST elevation" would never be screamed over a radio without specifying in which leads it is evident.

Given that, I believe that aspect only regards lackluster professional prehospital care when researching or writing this part of the book. The only thing I hate about it is in real life, people still view EMS & Paramedics as 'Ambulance Drivers' when they can go so far as to induce anesthesia, intubate & place a patient on a ventilator, not just use an LMA & an Ambu (brand name) bag. These folks have much to offer and literally bring the ED to the pt., not vice-versa. Off my soapbox on that though; I picked up on a few things not quite right medically, especially rule out diagnoses although, I think this may have been intentional to add suspense.

Given that, the medicolegal aspects, representaton of the ease of mistakes in medicine as well as intentional assignment of blame or malpractice is quite accurate. Additionally, the romantic aspects and undertones coupled with the plot made for a good listen. I'll certainly listen to the next book and feel this one was 4.5 ? although I gave it a 5
