About this audiobook

Midwife Sarah Brandt Malloy and her detective husband, Frank, must discover who killed a prominent—but despised—society banker before an innocent family is destroyed in Murder on Wall Street, an all-new Gaslight Mystery in the USA Today bestselling series.

Reformed gangster Jack Robinson is working hard to bolster his image in Gilded Age New York City society as he prepares to become a new father. But when Hayden Norcross, the man who nearly ruined his wife, is shot in cold blood, Jack knows the police will soon come knocking on his door. Frank Malloy has to agree—things don’t look good for Jack. But surely a man as unlikeable as Hayden had more than a few enemies. And it’s soon clear that plenty of the upper echelon as well as the denizens of the most squalid areas of the city seem to have hated him.

Sarah and Frank have their work cut out for them. As the daughter of the elite Decker family, Sarah has access to the social circles Hayden frequented, and the more she learns about his horrific treatment of women, the more disturbed she becomes. And as Frank investigates, he finds that Hayden had a host of unsavory habits that may have hastened his demise. But who finally killed him? Sarah and Frank must put the pieces together quickly before time runs out and Jack’s hard-won new life and family are ripped apart.

A privileged son of an investment banker, turns out to be a rapist & murderer and is later found dead, naked in his office after a non-Asian prostitute from the opium den is seen leaving his office... Malloy is asked to investigate by one of the investors that the dead man had swindled & Sarah joins in as the dead man's widow is pregnant, which gives her the perfect opening to help Malloy. It was easy to figure out who did it... and the story held my interest; most everyone was happy the bad-man was murdered.

This is Book #24 in the Gaslight series. As with all the books in this series, this one is set in New York City in the late 19th century. This book begins with the son of a prominent investment banker being found shot through the head in his Wall Street office. Jack Robinson comes to see Frank Malloy to ask him to investigate the murder since he, as well as a number of other people, have motives to get rid of this odious young man. The search takes Frank and Sarah, as well as the lovely Maeve into the echelons of high finance and high society. I always enjoy the glimpse that I get of the Gilded Age in this series. The books are usually fast-paced and the solutions are a little tricky. This book though is unfortunately not quite that way. I had figured out the murderer quickly into the book, but some of the backstory was surprising. This helped keep the book interesting. It was going along quite well until the end. The unmasking and arrest of the suspect was far-fetched and really did not match the tone of the rest of the book. So three stars for this one. I will read the next one in the series, as it appears that Frank and Sarah's personal lives will probably be front and foremost. Something exciting for them may be coming up.

Love this series! Frank and Sarah’s friend, Jack Robinson, is worried he’ll be blamed for the murder of an investment banker and wants Frank to find the murderer. Since Jack has turned his back on his old criminal life and married Joyclyn who’s expecting, he’s got a lot to lose. Frank and Sarah with the help of Gino and Maeve start investigating and find out the dead man’s wife is expecting and had been raped and forced into marriage so there’d be no scandal. Because it’s a society murder, Sarah enlists her parents help in their investigation. Very exciting ending.
