Lisa Marshall
Lisa was born in Pittsburgh, PA in November of '45. For five years, because of her father’s work, her family lived in the Midwest. Lisa always felt that living in the Midwest was dreary and lonely, only moderated by summers in central PA where there was green, spaciousness and extended family. At six years old she contracted chicken pox, mumps, measles and scarlet fever, missing 80 out of 180 days of school. For Lisa it was a long, lonely year, and as a result of all that missed school, Lisa taught herself to read. To this day, she takes pride in being one of the fastest and best readers she knows.A graduate of Bennington College, Marshall is certified by the International Coaching Federation, and she has received additional certification in Conversation-Based AssessmentTM, Syntax Communication Modeling, Newfield’s Ontological Coaching, and William Bridge’s Transition Management. Prior to entering the business world, Marshall spent twelve years working as a documentary filmmaker. It is from that background that her fascination with story, and its power to transform real-life lives, took hold.Lisa is a nationally recognized expert, trainer, and speaker on leadership maturity and organizational development, and president of her executive coaching firm, The Smart Work Company. Marshall founded The Smart Work Company to help leaders develop critical communication and collaboration skills. For over twenty years, her seminars and trainings have offered executives a creative way to become more self-aware and tap into their potential through the power of story. She has coached individuals and teams at such firms as NASA, Intel, USDA, and Taiwan Semiconductor. Lisa is the author of Speak the Truth and Point to Hope: The Leader's Journey to Maturity and her recent release is Yin: Completing the Leadership Journey. On becoming a business coach Lisa states, “I realized that coaching was a much more effective way to improve people skills than training. And then the people I worked with kept getting promoted....so I ended up doing a lot of leadership and executive coaching.” One factor that helped was that her dad was in industrial advertising and strategic planning. She grew up around those conversations, and could easily transition engineer clients into thinking about business issues and long-range planning.Lisa is now a fierce elder and grandmother, who aspires to be a good ancestor. She lives with her husband on the Yin side of First Mountain, part of the ancient mountains that run along the eastern side of the U.S in central Pennsylvania. She has set up her schedule to have “off” and “on” work weeks. During “on” weeks she'll talk to clients from about 11:00 to 4:00 for several days. “Off” weeks find her focusing on family including her youngest grandson. She is fascinated by the idea of learning to listen to the natural world as well as she listens to her clients. Lisa understands the power of story, and that stories live in our bodies. And she is deeply committed to the idea that our purpose in life is always, whatever path we take, to grow up, to mature, to become an elder.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Within minutes of picking up this audiobook, myself and my wife were bent over excited! The day after I gift one to a friend, they'd already learned something new for their little one, despite already having two older kids. (It'd been a few years, thus I thought the book would be a good refresher ; ) Later on, his wife commented too on how funny, and practical, some of the tips were too!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I liked how two authors - a dad and a mom - they wrote this book, because it has both - male and female - 2 points of view. Also, it’s not written for "bro's" or the "manly man" it's just a great read for males who are expecting. I found it respectful for both sex, differently from many other books on the subject! After buying this for myself I've began buying it for any first time father's I know. It's an easy listening,it has made me feel more comfortable and prepared for our baby. It does a month to month breakdown of what physical and mental changes your partner is going through, how baby is developing, and then things you could be feeling. Being adults we always want stats to back up claims so when they're saying "83% of men feel this" they provide studies they're referencing. They also provide little-known insights, and considerations that should be taken as your due date gets closer. Probably, one of the BEST guide for Dads-to-be!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5It's informative, funny, and there are great additional insights on topics from finances to baby registries that are super helpful. I also appreciate that Lisa and Johnny acknowledge childbearing for the amazing, wonderful process it is without being overly mushy about the whole thing. If you're looking for a "your sweet angle baby precious miracle is the size of a strawberry this week" this book is not for you. If you want that your baby boy's testicles descend in week 26 and need help navigating your partner's mood swings and food cravings, this book is definitely for you.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This audiobook so far is better than ANY book geared towards moms or first time parents. We are first time parents, and this audiobook has been extremely informative. Many of the books I've read/listened to that are geared towards moms are... kind of scary honestly. I find myself second guessing symptoms because of a stupid book, instead of being stress free, which is what expectant mommies need. Also, most "first time mom" books i've read paint a male partner as a worthless dummy with a penis. My husband isn't dumb, he's just not properly informed. THIS AUDIOBOOK fills in ALL of the gaps we BOTH need, and leaves out any and all fear mongering. We are listening chapters by the weeks of pregnancy. I find it also validates the things that other books have failed to do. I highly HIGHLY recommend this book to ANYONE who needs to be properly educated without being scared to death about "potential complications". My husband is wonderful, but sometimes i find him standing around like a sim without commands. This audiobook helps let him know week by week, month by month, trimester by trimester how he can contribute towards OUR pregnancy. It gives him the power and confidence he needs to contribute without ME ordering him around [honestly, i'm too tired and hormonal to even do that, and i know other moms would be too]. I can't praise this book enough. GET IT NOW! :)
