I have mixed opinions on this. The writing is simple but satisfactory, more of a NA level. The audiobook is great, Michael Ferraiuolo does a great job bringing it to life.

I'm noticing dub-con is a go-to for Pillow. But the characters complete lack of communication is frustrating and makes them seem much more childish than they should be given their age and profession. And their both impulsive. The final scene was rushed, their actions not thought out, I find it hard to believe that either character would behave impulsively and not discuss things like how they will treat each other going forward, what are the definitions of the words they use for each other, and what they plan to do about their strikingly different life expectancy.

I'm also frustrated at the anti-abortion stance of the author. It's one thing to not want abortions for yourself, it's another thing to entirely not understand what a pro-choice stance is, and yet try to write about it. Huge TW on abortion and a complete lack of bodily autonomy.

The book has some balance issues. Large sections feel like all smut, then other sections feel like plot. It's not integrated.

6th time is charm... Good story. Action/adventure. I've read this book a few times, because I could never get past the first paragraph (or chapter) because of the narrator. It took me 6 attempts to get past the female character sounding like a gay man imitating a gay man. The other odd thing was that the other characters voices changed occasionally. Otherwise good reader. I actually prefer the Var series over the dragon's. Meow

I liked this undercover working girl getting involved with the “native” she is supposed to be watching. Looks of pining is for each other and perceptions misunderstandings. Great in the sex department though.
