I had a hard time getting into this book. It goes between Cross' view point and that of the man plotting against him - the Author Sunday. Sunday is a killer. He feels no guilt for what he does. He proud of that. He wants to be the perfect criminal. He is going after Cross, because Cross disagreed with him and to prove he can. Sunday is has no redeeming qualities. I figured out the reason I couldn't get into this book is that way to much of it is from Sunday's point of view. The book also has a cliff hanger ending. It is a set up for the next book.

The story interweaves a couple of different plots nicely and keeps us reading at a very good pace. A psycho is after Alex and his family, Characters develop, bad guys emerge... Then the book ended, or I should say, it didn't end. It just ran out of words. I'm lucky, the book was on loan from a library so I don't feel like I've been rooked out of $15 for a hard cover book.

Having never read a James Patterson, this was a bad one to begin with. It was too much in one book and didn't seem to tie together very well. Perhaps if I had read prior Alex Cross stories, I wouldn't be so lost. Also the end was very frustrating - it needed about 6 more chapters to finish the book. Very unsatisfied.

This book is an improvement on the Alex Cross series I've been reading recently. Cross returns, usual situation. He has high profile cases to solve. There someone who has murdured several people in a massage palour and there's also someone kidnapping babies. Are the cases related? Then in the background, there is a man who is out to get Cross and his family and is managing to get info about Cross and his family before he executes his plan. The book ends on a cliffhanger. It seems incomplete. It just sort of ends and you are like 'What?' That's it?? Luckily for me, I had the next book waiting and am about to begin it.

Not a good way to sell books with the promise of maybe having the ending at a later date.

Only half a book. One story for the price of two. I'm looking forward to the rest of this story, but wasn't warned I'd need to read it in installments.

Even though this is a long series of books, there is an "ending" to her novel. Not this time, he finally leaves you hanging, wanting to read teh next book int he series!

I have always liked the Alex Cross stories. This has a surprising ending, where there is none. Another novel is in order to find out what happened to his family. Always pacey and exciting.

This is what I get after staying up late to "finish" this book? HALF OF A BOOK?!?!?! I am glad to see on Amazon that I am not the only one feeling cheated by James Patterson. Right when you get to the climax, Patterson writes an author's note "to be continued". In my opinion, Patterson either didn't bother to write a whole book, or wanted to get even more money out of his loyal fans by having us buy two books. He should send everyone cheated by this trick a copy of the rest of the book. Shame on you James Patterson, and shame on the editors and publishers Little, Brown and Company and Hachette Book Group for letting it happen.

I love Patterson's Cross series and enjoyed this one. Even though I knew there was another one to follow, it still seemed like the ending was a disappointment. Can't wait to read Hope to Die to find out how it ends. The other reviewers had mixed messages and I am in the middle. Do not want to spoil the story, suffice it to say, there are 2 things happening in the story, one is solved the other leaves you hanging until the next book. There is more of Bree in this one which I enjoyed. Alex's family plays a much bigger role in this book than in the past ones.

I'm thinking the people who are complaining about this book haven't read all the Alex Cross books. This is book #21 in the series. I have read every one of them and I always can't wait to visit with Alex Cross. I'm always sad to see him leave at the end of a book. I don't see this book as a prequel or not complete. I see it as a continuation in the life of Alex Cross. Just as Ava is a continued story from the previous book. So what that James Patterson wanted to continue this storyline into the next book. He probably felt there was more to tell without making this book 1,000 pages. So I look forward to book #22. As always this book kept me guessing who people are. Kept me wondering what was going to happen and made me wonder do homicide detective really have that busy of a life? I'm looking forward to the next book.

For a long time, I have wondered what has gotten into James Patterson. His books have become flat, run-of the mill plots and totally unbelievable plots, not to mention the characters, which lack depth and/or interest. Now, I have come to realize that he has peaked as an author and may be on his way down. This latest installment of the Alex Cross series packs the usual excitement and interest earlier books in the series did, but it lacks and ending. I guess he thinks his fan base is so secure that he can write a 400 page book, fill it with an exciting plot, and leave the reader hanging, with no ending, figuring the reader will naturally just buy the follow-on book to see what happens. Based on reviews I have read, most other readers are as disappointed as I am that this author, who gave us so much, has resorted to a dirty trick to sell his books. I am luckier than many, because I got my copy from the local library and didn’t waste my money on this one. Cranking out books as often as he has been doing takes its toll, and we are seeing it right here. He probably is not selling as many books as he once did (they are now inferior to those from earlier times), and needs to resort to tricks to ensure future sales. Needless to say, I am sorely disappointed with this book and with the author. Not sure whether I will be reading the next book in the series. I sure won’t be buying it if I do. The story in this one is good, and the characters are pretty good, though both are a bit unbelievable, but the ending to this book is terrible. I hope he gets the message from his readers, but I suspect he will be laughing all the way to the bank on this one.
