    Lord Milton should have been a happy man with an ancient title and a magnificent estate. But he is deep in debt and haunted by memories of the Crimean War, where he had once been a soldier. To take his mind off the past, he becomes the manager of a hotel in Brighton called the Paradise Hotel. He decides to abandon his title and pass simply as John Milton. Then a mysterious young lady arrives suddenly and begs him to hide her from the man who hunts her.

    Cecilia’s flight from her guardian, Sir Stewart, leads her to the Paradise Hotel, where she meets John Milton. The hotel is her refuge from Sir Stewart, who is ruthlessly intent on marrying her for her fortune, and John is the only man who can help her.

    Just as John begins to realize that he would do anything to protect Cecilia, he discovers a terrible secret about her, and it seems as if a life together could be impossible.
