About this audiobook
#1 New York Times bestselling author Sherryl Woods returns listeners to her world of strong friendships and heartfelt emotions in this classic Sweet Magnolias novel.
Maddie Townsend might live in a town called Serenity but there's been nothing calm or peaceful about her life since her marriage broke up. This stay-at-home mom has no job skills, an out-of-control sixteen-year-old son, a talkative fourteen-year-old who's suddenly gone silent, a six-year-old daughter whose heart is broken, an ex-husband whose younger girlfriend is expecting their baby and two best friends who think she's somehow qualified to help them open a fitness spa for women.
But if Maddie is a tad on edge with all that on her plate, it's nothing compared to the chaos that ensues when she discovers that her son's baseball coach has feelings for her and the whole town disapproves. Maddie's faced a lot of challenges lately with strength and resolve, but Cal Maddox may turn out to be more than she can handle. Then again, he could just be the one man in all of South Carolina who can help her find serenity.

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5This is a beautiful story of friendship in a fairly rubbish situation. The friends are well written and feel authentic. I loved the children in this story who seem extremely realistic. I found the story unfolded in a reasonably predictable manner and I liked the pace.
The only drawback for me was the "villians" in the piece didn't seem to have the originality displayed by the core good characters.
The main character Maddie seemed lovely and I enjoyed her range of responses to some fairly realistic and ordinary situations. It was a lovely "happily ever after" for me - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I actually started this series at book #6 and enjoyed it so much that I had to go back and start from the beginning. I was not disappointed at all!
I love turning to books like this, especially in the summertime, and especially after reading "heavier" books. I find them so light, fun, and uplifting. Now, I am a huge fan of historical romances, but contemporary... not always so much. I am extremely picky when it comes to contemporary romances because I just can't do cheesy writing or cheesy dialogue. Many a cute sounding romance has been opened and put right back down because of the eye-roll worthy dialogue of the characters. Sherryl Woods does NOT fit in the category. I really enjoy her writing and I am so happy for that, because I really want to love contemp romances! And I am so hooked on this series now and these characters!
Sweet, addicting, and not silly! Drama, romance, and friendship! All the things I am looking to read on a summer day. - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I love books that are in a series. I like knowing that the second book will pick up where the first left off and so on and so forth. It is like a TV series in paperback.
This book was a joy to read. Marriage, divorce and then finally finding the one you should have married from the get go. My life in a nutshell LOL - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Silly but good to read during these crazy times
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Maddie Townsend's husband has left her for a younger woman. If that's not cliche enough, it's his nurse that Maddie hired whom the rat-fink has knocked up. What makes matters worse is that he's insensitive or arrogant enough to believe they're all going to be one big, happy family. One small problem - Maddie and the rat fink's kids are so not on board with the arrangement. As matter their oldest son Ty is violently opposed to his dad's living arrangements and the fact that his dad has left his mom. The middle son, Kyle has pretty much quit talking and Katie the baby of the family is inconsolable.
But Maddie's best friends and mom are there to help put the pieces back together. But does that include Ty' s hot, baseball coach or will he make things even worse? Even more than a romance this is a story of friendship, at least that's what I enjoyed the most - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Maddie Townsend lives in Serenity a small town. Since her marriage broke up nothing has been calm or peaceful about her life. She is a stay at home mmom with no job skills her sixteen year old son is out of control. Her fourteen year old son the family jokester has gone silent, andher six year old daughter is heart broken. Her soon to be ex - husbands girlfriend is expecting their baby. And her two best friends want her help to open a fitness spa for women. Maddie is a bit on edge. But nothing compares to the chao's that ensues when she discovers her son's baseball coach has feelings for her. Cal Maddick maybe more than she can handle right now. Than to make matters worse her ex decides he wants her back. A truly fantastic read Sherryl Woods writes a great story about what happens when a middle aged man decides he wants a fresh start and tears his family apart in the process.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5This is an enjoyable enough romance between Maddie, who is recently divorced, and Cal, her son's baseball coach. Small town talk and interference cause problems as do the age difference between them, and Maddie's ex-husband and children. Maddie has to work out what she wants and fight to retain it.I mostly enjoyed this book. I liked the characters and thought that the children were not too precocious. I thought that Maddie's breakup with her husband and the aftermath was well done and realistic. The problem which I had was with the small town mentality and gossip. The author likes small towns and thinks that their way of life is attractive but it doesn't come over that way in this book. Local opposition to the match between Maddie and Cal is so great that apparently there is even reference to it in the local paper. In a cringe-making scene which I sincerely hope is not based on employment law practices in America Cal has to justify what he does in his spare time before his employers, the local townspeople and the pupils he teaches. I cannot understand why Cal and Maddy didn't just move somewhere else and I fail to believe that small town life is as attractive as all the characters seem to think based on this episode.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I enjoyed this sweet book. The relationship between Maddie and Cal developed a bit overly quickly for my taste, but the attraction was genuine and communicated well on the page. The book was a bit too long and could have gone more quickly, but it was a pleasant read.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I enjoyed this more than I thought I would. Good, strong female characters quite willing to stand on their own if needed. And, there weren't many instances where I shouted at the character "Just tell him/her!!" So many romance novels turn on the fact that the characters won't TALK to each other.
