About this audiobook
From the author of The Memory of Running-a beautifully crafted story of a man who returns home to discover the truth about his past
Featuring the warmth and authenticity that made The Memory of Running such a major success, Traveler wraps a beautifully written ode to friendship within a compelling mystery. Jono Riley is an aging bartender and part-time actor in Manhattan who is compelled to return to the working-class neighborhoods of East Providence, where he came of age with his three best friends in the early 1960s. Jono is drawn into an attempt to solve the mystery of several shootings that occurred back then. As the surprising truth emerges, Jono is forced to come to terms with a past that is not quite what he remembers, even as he makes new resolutions in the present.

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Taut, well-written serial-killer novel with an effective and sympathetic lead detective and a truly evil bad guy. This is a relatively old book that I just got around to reading and it's interesting to note the differences between procedures back then and in the current DNA/CSI era.
I only had 2 problems with the book: the timing involved in bringing the story to its conclusion, and the incredible nature of the conclusion itself. I really liked this book and plan to seek out others by this author. - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5My friend, Jeanie, was appalled to learn I'd never read anything by John Katzenbach so I did. The Traveler is a really interesting book. It is quite gruesome and grizzly and scary. (It's the first time a book has ever given me nightmares and I've read some hard stuff.) The plot is compelling. The story is really two run in parallel - the protagonist's journey as well as the villan's. A really interesting read.
