A PROMOTER’S EXCESS
MAYBE ONE REASON concert promoter Danny Zelisko became so successful in his chosen field is that he learned from the best: Bill Graham. In his eminently readable and extremely visual book ALL EXCE$$: Occupation, Zelisko lays bare the friendships and hardships of rising to the top. No wonder it took four years to write! The man has stories and pictures of — get this! — Alice Cooper, Willie Nelson, Roger Waters, Aerosmith, Grateful Dead, Herbie Hancock, Jeff Beck, Barbra Streisand, Kris Kristofferson, Chuck Berry (maybe the toughest guy to deal with out of all of them!), Jon Bon Jovi (maybe the nicest), Tony Bennett, Muddy Waters (who wanted the author to get him some weed), Genesis, Tina Turner, Billy Idol, Bruce Springsteen, U2, Billy Joel, Bob Seger, James Brown and John Prine (who became one of his best friends). And that only scratches the surface of his wealth of stories. He even got baseball legend Kirk Gibson to write the forward.
