The baby stirred in his blanket as the girl held him tightly to her chest; goosebumps covered her arms. Her bare feet were frozen by the icy stone beneath them, and as she inched slowly along the roof’s balcony, her body shook with fear. She wouldn’t let them take her precious boy.  When the broken body of a seventy-one-year-old woman is found beneath the Humber Bridge, a sign around her neck with the words ‘Pure Evil’ spray-painted in red, Detective Hollie Turner can’t help but wonder – who would want this frail elderly woman dead?  As she starts to delve into the victim’s personal life, Hollie discovers that the woman, Sister Brennan, ran a local mother and baby home at the Church of St Mary and the Angels. The unit may have shut down years ago, but the pain and anguish of those who were forced to give up their babies remains.  The case hits an emotional nerve for Hollie, who was barely twenty when she became a mother and is currently picking up the pieces of her broken marriage and shattered home life.  Determined to uncover the secrets in the home’s dark past, Hollie finds an old photograph of four girls who were there at the same time. Each had their babies taken from them; each has their own harrowing story to tell.  But just as Hollie is beginning to crack the case and link vital clues to Sister Brennan’s murder, an elderly priest is attacked and left for dead in his home. Facing her most complex investigation yet – one steeped in decades of betrayal – can Hollie find the killer before they strike again?  The Fallen Girls is the first in an electrifying new crime-thriller series, introducing Detective Hollie Turner – perfect for fans of Angela Marsons, J M  Dalgliesh and Robert Dugoni. The woman who entered the police station wore clothes that suggested she was happy to blend into the background. Her voice was softly spoken, almost apologetic, as she uttered the words, ‘I’m here to confess to a murder.’ Detective Hollie Turner is chasing down a suspect connected to the recent murder of Sister Sophia Brennan when she receives a call that someone has confessed to the shocking crime. Hollie should be relieved that this is the end of a gruelling investigation, but her instincts tell her something isn’t right. As Hollie and her team uncover the truth behind the confession, they discover a web of dark secrets and unspeakable crimes haunting the now-abandoned Church of St Mary and the Angels mother and baby home. When Hollie starts to receive cryptic messages from a stranger leading her straight to the killer, she makes a disturbing link between her mysterious contact and the terrifying place where girls were sent to give up their babies.   The killer may be within reach, but they’re also tracking Hollie’s every move, and they’re watching her precious children. Author

Paul J. Teague

"I'm Paul Teague, the author of the Don't Tell Meg trilogy and the 9-part Morecambe Bay series as well as several other standalone psychological thrillers such as Now You See Her, Dead of Night, One Last Chance, No More Secrets and So Many Lies. I'm a former broadcaster and journalist with the BBC, but I have also worked as a primary school teacher, a disc jockey, a shopkeeper, a waiter and a sales rep. I've read thrillers all my life, starting with Enid Blyton's Famous Five series as a child, then graduating to James Hadley Chase, Harlan Coben, Linwood Barclay and Mark Edwards. I submitted my first book - Mr Plum & Mr Apple - to Penguin Books at age 9 in 1974. It was handwritten on a Basildon Bond notepad. Having received lots of encouraging advice in the rejection letter, I never really stopped writing, submitting short stories to the village magazine, the college magazine, and writing plays for performance at secondary school. I worked with the BBC as a radio reporter, presenter and producer for 19 years, and for much of that time presented two radio shows whilst based at BBC Radio Humberside. I started off writing thrillers with the Don’t Tell Meg Trilogy which draws upon my career in radio journalism. It’s fast-moving, high action and a bit racy in places, but it was great fun writing the story and I hope to re-visit the characters one day. My Morecambe Bay Trilogy is based in and around a traditional UK seaside resort and has proven very popular with readers who like a strong sense of location in their stories. My wife and I worked in the resort as students, and it was there that the seed for the first trilogy was born. My standalone books are ‘can’t-put-down’ stories where normal people find themselves in extraordinary situations. I also write sci-fi and dystopian novels as Paul Teague and these stories are set in dark and sinister future-worlds. I even have a few non-fiction books out, mainly on geeky, web-based topics. I live in Cumbria with my wife and family and I now write full-time. I run to stay healthy, being a keen parkrun enthusiast. I am also learning how to DJ and reviving a skill that I used to use to make money in my teenage years. My long-term aspiration is to specialise in 80s sets for British holidaymakers whilst spending the winter months in Benidorm."
