He talks about the importance of the gut microbiome and the ways in which diet and lifestyle can disempower our gut microbes and manifest as poor health. He also explains how when you make positive changes to your diet and lifestyle your gut microbiome will positively adapt and evolve with you
Dr Will also discusses with Angela the critical role of fibre and microbes in producing healing, anti-inflammatory compounds and explains why eating as many different varieties of plants as possible is key

KEY TAKEAWAYS

The microbiome is most concentrated inside of the body in the colon, our biology is supported by the gut microbiome
The gut microbiome is shaped and formed by your lifestyle choices
Our gut can be trained to evolve and adapt to our dietary choices over time
Prebiotics mean food for the microbiome and in turn better health
Polyphenols are the antioxidant compounds found in plant foods and are activated by the gut microbes
We need our microbiome to process and digest fibre and resistant starches, in the colon fibre is consumed by microbes and the fibre becomes short chain fatty acids
Short chain fatty acids are the most healing, anti-inflammatory compounds and come from consuming fibre
The avoidance of carbohydrates to lower blood sugar is not fixing insulin resistance
Sour bread has microbes that produce compounds making it organically more preserved
The entire lifecycle of a plant involves microbes and preservatives, preserve by destroying and retarding microbes
To optimise gut health begin with diet and lifestyle and use probiotics as a supplement.
Eat as many different varieties of plants as possible  and add fermented foods to your diet to optimise your gut health
