Description

Welcome to another episode of the Biohacking Beauty podcast brought to you by Young Goose Skincare! In this episode, host Amitay Eshel, the CEO of Young Goose, is joined by JDr. Chris Shade. We discuss how mercury toxicity impacts your body and your skin. We also share how one can detoxify their body from this toxin. Christopher Shade, Ph.D., is the founder and CEO of Quicksilver Scientific®. He specializes in the biological, environmental, and analytical chemistry of mercury in all its forms and its interactions with sulfur compounds, particularly glutathione, and its enzyme system. What we discuss:05:51: About Dr. Shade15:21: How does mercury affect the skin?22:24: How does mercury toxicity impact your body?32:03: How can we get glutathione levels up?36:41: Why should someone be interested in the pre-care of molecules?42:57: How to detoxify your body with supplements and topicals?51:35: Where can you learn more about Dr. Shade?Key Takeaways:Humans tend to find two different types of mercury in our bodies. The first is Methylmercury, which is an organic form of mercury. It is the most common form of mercury in fish and is present in some types of fish at concentrations. The second kind is mercury which tends to be found in dental amalgam fillings. They are often used to fill cavities and are known to release a small amount of mercury vapor. Amalgam can also release small amounts of mercury vapor during chewing. Both types of mercury have the potential to impair human health. Glutathione is an antioxidant produced in cells, mainly in the liver. It's comprised largely of three amino acids: glutamine, glycine, and cysteine. Glutathione levels in the body tend to reduce over time due to aging but can also be due to poor nutrition, environmental toxins, and stress. When your body is dealing with a high level of mercury toxicity, these glutathione levels decrease. This causes a domino effect of biological processes to kick off, predominantly telomeres shortening and cell senescence. Mercury toxicity is causing you to age prematurely. When high levels of mercury are found in the body, this causes your body to release oxidative stress, which may stimulate the senescent cell cycle. If you can regenerate the high antioxidant production in the body, you can reverse this process and prevent the further production of senescent cells. You can achieve this by boosting your glutathione levels.  To learn more about Dr. Shade:Website: https://www.drchrisshade.com/ Instagram: @dr.christophershadeTo learn more about Young Goose:Website: https://www.younggoose.com/Instagram: @young_goose_skincareGet 20% off your first purchase by using code PODCAST20 at www.younggoose.com
