Description

In this episode I had the opportunity to talk with Caroline Sumners, former teacher and founder of Empower Academic Coaching. We discuss the limits on what teachers have the capacity to teach our students, and how executive functioning - something not really taught in school - can be the missing puzzle piece to help your kid succeed academically. We also discuss how helping our kids learn how to organize and study can result in: Better relationships with teachersImproved family dynamicsLess school frustrationImproved communication with teachers and adultsAbout the Guest:Caroline Sumners is the president & founder of Empower Academic Coaching, an individualized academic and coaching support program for middle & high schoolers that focuses on developing the whole student. A former middle & high school science & English teacher, Caroline was inspired to start her company when she saw how little time there was in the classroom setting to teach effective strategies for learning rather than just content. Caroline loves helping students take control of their academic goals, strengthen their executive function skills, and gain confidence by providing a space where they learn alternative solutions and strategies not typically taught in a school setting. Caroline & her team have now supported over 170 families through individual student coaching & parent trainings. Caroline lives in Atlanta, Georgia with her wife and 2 dogs.Learn more about Caroline's work at https://www.empoweracademiccoaching.com/.Connect with Caroline on Instagram.Connect with Caroline on Facebook.Connect with Raising Middle School Girls:Thank you for listening to the Raising Middle School Girls podcast.
