Description

While we are releasing this episode ahead of the 2023 Western States Endurance Run, this talk on all things crewing and pacing is truly evergreen. This is a double-header episode hearing from two experienced pacers and crew members: Amelia Boone and Alex Hildebrandt. As well as being an accomplished elite ultrarunner and obstacle course racer herself, Amelia is preparing to pace top Western States contender Meg Morgan in this year’s race. Fuelled by his love of the trails and running community, Alex also has experience crewing elite athletes and has a reputation for being a “lucky charm”. Off the trails, Alex works full time in the tech industry and Amelia as an attorney and pop-tart connoisseur!

In this episode we talk about:
-tips for assembling your perfect crew team, starting understanding your crew needs: logistics help, gear and nutrition, cheerleading, pacing, and more
-advice for crew members and things to discuss with your athlete, including logistics and crewing by bike
-ealing with DNFs, curveballs and different challenges faced by athletes and crew
-ultra pacing 101: pre race considerations, running etiquette, and real time responses
-navigating aid stations and race plans
