LSU football's special teams unit ranked 125th in college football in 2022. The Tigers last season suffered just about every single special teams blunder imaginable: blocked field goals, blocked extra points, muffed punts, dropped kickoffs, and all sorts of penalties and big returns given up. So as former special teams coordinator Brian Pollian fills in a full time off-field role, new special teams coordinator Jon Jancek is tasked with turning around special teams and changing it from the teams weakness to a strength.
Jancek spoke with the media this week and broke down exactly what he thought went wrong last year and what he plans to do in order to fix it. The struggling special teams can be attributed to injuries, inexperience, and poor coaching. So what is different this year?
