VGK staved off the red-hot Edmonton Oilers and won two titles Thursday night - the Pacific Division and Western Conference crowns. The race between the two teams was neck-in-neck since the All-Star break, but VGK clinched both titles with Thursday's 3-1 victory in Seattle over the Kraken. VGK had goals from Reilly Smith, who had a puck go off his skate and past Philipp Grubauer, and Alex Martinez scored a goal on a delayed Seattle Kraken penalty. For Martinez it was just his third goal of the season. Chandler Stephenson added an empty netter to seal the win. VGK now has home ice for the Western Conference playoffs. They welcome Winnipeg, a team they dominated with three wins earlier this season, to the Fortress for games 1 nd 2. We should see a good goalie matchup between former Jets backup Laurent Brossoit and Connor HelleBuyck. Winnipeg was the last team to make it into the post-season tournament. Game 1 will be Tuesday and the second game will be on Thursday.
