Most people have some sort of plan going into a workout, but there are 3 key things that need to be considered when creating that plan. Getting a bigger max set of chest-to-bar pull-ups won't necessarily improve your ability to do large sets during workouts, so you need to have a plan that takes into account all of the variables of the workout - like interference between movement patterns, overall level of metabolic fatigue, and your own characteristics as an athlete. It's also crucial to develop an intuition about when to suck it up and stick to your plan and when to call an audible and adjust on the fly.
