Description

Jaden Rashada is a four-star quarterback in the 2022 class, a top-30 recruit per 247Sports, and a top ten quarterback in this class. He initially committed to the University of Miami, but after a $13 million NIL deal was offered by the Gator Collective at the University of Florida he flipped his commitment to the U's in-state rival and signed with Billy Napier's squad on early signing day. Rashada graduated from high school early with the intention of enrolling early at Florida in the spring. But questions began to arise about the $13 million deal when Rashada still had yet to enroll. The deal had fallen through as the Gator Collective did not have the funds to deliver on the deal and Rashada's request to be released from his national letter of intent was approved by the university. So now Rashada, a talented young prospect, is not signed to play anywhere in 2023 and Florida is without their quarterback of the future.
So how does that affect LSU? Each school and collectives have their own ways of approaching NIL deals, both with recruits coming into the program and current players. LSU has not been one of the schools to dish out a huge deal, like Florida's $13 million to Rashada or Tennessee's $8 million to five-star quarterback Nicholaus Iamaleava from California. How will Rashada's incident impact LSU's approach to name, image, and likeness? How will the rest of college football react and respond?
