Description

Before your hosts start today, they’d like to take the time to remind everyone that this podcast is, ultimately, a Chase Stokes fan account...Once that’s established, Jac and D welcome an incredible certified physician’s associate in primary care who specializes in LGBTQ+ and HIV care, Asia Sullivan. We promise this episode does get in to your standard medical chats, but first the three gush over Asia’s wedding that was featured in The Knot wedding magazine. Asia then discusses how she got into the field, coming from rural Alabama where there was not good access to care. She highlights where LGBTQ+ specific care falls in to the curriculum, which seems to largely depend on where you study, as there appears to be no real standardized practice for how to address the community's specific needs. Asia talks about her work with HIV care, and provides a status update on Monkeypox. (Shocker: the vaccine is working!! Who would have thought…) She also talks about what the vaccine was actually already approved for, but you may want to fact check that one. Asia then shares what she is most passionate about, which ultimately comes down to destigmatizing conversations around things that should be considered normal, but aren’t discussed for silly reasons. She also provides tips on how best to approach conversations about testing, and how she keeps it all very lighthearted. We are so thankful to Asia for taking the time to share with us all of the options and advancements in HIV testing and care.
You can get HIV tests over the counter at CVS, or go to takemehome.org to be mailed a confidential HIV kit to your house.
