Description

This week’s guest is acute care nurse and real-life mermaid Andrea Dalzell, RN, BSN who also happens to be former Miss Wheelchair New York! In this episode, you’ll get to hear about how Andrea found her advocate voice in the nursing profession as well as her deep passion for applying her personal experiences of being a patient to bedside care. Her career path has not come without obstacles; Andrea shares with D how her place in the nursing program was questioned on the very first day and having to do 76 interviews before getting her current position. These experiences have not curbed Andrea’s motivations. She talks about what it really means to be a self-advocate and how able-bodied allies can amplify the voices of people with disabilities.

The WoMed is a space to discuss, debate, and celebrate all things Women in Medicine! Danielle Maltby is joined by co-host Jackie Camardo to bring new issues and faces to light in the medical community. These nursing vets bring humor, reality, and a serious passion for the world around them to discussions on self-care, emerging healthcare trends, education, activism, patient stories, and pop culture representation of the industry. The hosts welcome not just women in medicine, but members of the LGBTQ communities in medicine as well, to ensure more people have a platform to amplify their voices. They are also joined by some of the industry’s biggest experts and thought-leaders! Nothing is off-limits, so listeners should come prepared to laugh, (maybe cry), and tune in to meaningful conversations that could change the way you see healthcare.
