Description

This week on The WoMed, Danielle is joined by an old friend and coworker, Shemeka Davis! Shemeka now works as a family nurse practitioner in oncology. She discusses her path to oncology, why she wanted to become an FNP, and how she copes with the mortality rate in her new role. She also shares the versatility and benefits of being an FNP, but also how she misses those hands-on skills she used to practice daily. Shemeka and D reminisce on night shifts, and D opens up about questioning her career path. They talk about the importance of taking care of your mental health as a healthcare worker, and the importance of advocating for yourself and your body as a patient. Shemeka speaks to the nurses out there who may be considering an advanced nursing degree and shares why it has absolutely been the right decision for her.

The WoMed is a space to discuss, debate, and celebrate all things Women in Medicine! Danielle Maltby is joined by co-host Jackie Camardo to bring new issues and faces to light in the medical community. These nursing vets bring humor, reality, and a serious passion for the world around them to discussions on self-care, emerging healthcare trends, education, activism, patient stories, and pop culture representation of the industry. The hosts welcome not just women in medicine, but members of the LGBTQ communities in medicine as well, to ensure more people have a platform to amplify their voices. They are also joined by some of the industry’s biggest experts and thought-leaders! Nothing is off-limits, so listeners should come prepared to laugh, (maybe cry), and tune in to meaningful conversations that could change the way you see healthcare.
