Description
With a record-number of fans in attendance for USC Football's 2022 Spring Game, Trojan fans were treated to plenty of offense as they try to forget an abysmal 4-8 finish in 2021. Led by former 5-star QB Caleb Williams, the most notable transfer that USC picked up this offseason, the offense stole the show over the weekend in Los Angeles as Williams completed his first 9 passes. Their crisp showing on offense reflects some of the improvements Lincoln Riley was hired to make when he came over from Oklahoma.
On this episode of Locked On Pac-12, Spencer McLaughlin takes a look at USC Football's first Spring Game under former Oklahoma Football HC Lincoln Riley. With a brilliant offensive mind supported by some talented skill position players, the Trojans' offense should be able to score plenty of points. Based on the tape from Saturday, players like Austin Jones, Romello Height, and Kyron Ware-Hudson showed they deserved more playing time.
Going forward, questions still remain for the USC Football program. Defense was never a strength (and was often a weakness) of Lincoln Riley's Oklahoma teams, and his DC Alex Grinch will now have to start from scratch on that side of the ball after the defense struggled mightily in 2021. If the defense can just be average, there's a good chance the Trojans will score more than enough points to resume their winning ways. Addressing the offensive line is something they might look to the transfer portal for to address for the 2022 season.
